‘Jeopardy!’: Did Ron Clarke Win Again After Tiebreaker Shocker?
Spoiler Alert
Tuesday’s game of Jeopardy! had a shocking result, with a tiebreaker question. Now, the winner, who dethroned the multi-day champion, returned for his second game. Did Ron Clarke win again?
As fans will recall, Clarke, from Chickaloon, Alaska, made a shocking wager at the end of his first game, tying him with the champion, Greg Monson. Because Monson wagered no money, it ended in a tie. Host Ken Jennings had to ask another question. Whoever rang in first and got it right won the game. That was Clarke. He ended Monson’s three-day streak.
Clarke entered his second game with a total of $18,200. On October 14, the retired wildlife biologist played against Kim Kalnoki, from Sacramento, California, and Wesley Yiin, from Los Angeles, California.
“It still really doesn’t seem quite real,” Clarke told Mat-Su Sentinel after his victory. “It was everything you would hope it would be.”
Warning: Spoilers for the Wednesday, October 14, episode of Jeopardy! ahead!
Kalnoki, a pattern designer, found an early Daily Double, but it wasn’t enough to give her the lead. By the end of the first round, Yiin, a film and TV executive, had the lead with $6,800. Clarke wasn’t too far behind with $4,800. Kalnoki was in third place with $3,200.
In Double Jeopardy, Kalnoki found the last DD of the round, taking her from last place to first, but only by a little bit. At the end of the round, Kalnoki was in the lead with $14,400. Yiin was not too far behind with $14,200. Clarke was in third place with $4,800.
The Final Jeopardy category was “Famous Buildings.” The clue read, “A replica of it was built for a 1912 exhibition in Earl’s Court, 85 years before another opened on the other side of the river.”
Only one of the game show contestants had the correct response. Clarke answered, “What is my hovercraft is full of eels?” which was clearly wrong. Despite going all in on his first game, Clarke wagered $0 this time, ending with $4,800.
Yiin’s response was “What is Big Ben?” He was also wrong and wagered $4,000, making his total $10,200. Kalnoki had the correct response of “What is The Globe Theater?”
She wagered $14,001, making her final total $28,401. She became the new champion and will return for her second game on Thursday. Will she become a multi-day champion?
