Tara Lipinski to Host HGTV’s ‘Big Bargain Holiday Showdown’: Everything We Know
Tara Lipinski is trading in the world of ice skating for the world of home design.
The Olympic gold medalist and sports broadcaster will make her HGTV hosting debut on the new competition series Big Bargain Holiday Showdown. The series will follow “two teams of friends, family and neighbors will battle to prove who has the most holiday spirit without blowing their shoestring budget,” per its description.
With the help of experts, the teams will have “just 48 hours and $500 each to transform one room in their home into a stunning winter-themed wonderland using ingenious design hacks, custom projects and smart spending,” the synopsis states. The winning team will score “bragging rights, a cash prize, and a surprise from Santa.”
In a press release statement, Lipinski said of the series, “I’ve spent my whole life being judged on ice. Now I’m trading the ice for a whole new type of winter competition to prove you don’t need a Santa-sized budget to make some serious holiday magic.”
Lipinski is no stranger to hosting TV shows, having led series such as Wedding Cake Championship and Wedding Talk. In addition to figure skating on the global stage, the Olympian has appeared on a number of reality shows over the years, most recently competing in Season 4 of Peacock‘s The Traitors earlier this year.

The series will premiere on HGTV on Tuesday, November 10, at 9/8c. New episodes will be available to stream the next day on HBO Max.

The show’s first season will consist of six episodes.
Who will star on Big Bargain Holiday Showdown?
In addition to Lipinski as host, the show will feature Ashley Dixon and Clinton Tharp as the teams’ DIY experts. Contestants will be judged by “holiday artist, designer and Glitterville Studios founder” Stephen Brown and “interior designer and 37th Burleigh founder” Pelar Fullilove, per HGTV’s description.
An official lineup of contestants and teams has not yet been announced.
What will happen on the premiere episode of Big Bargain Holiday Showdown?
“Tara will challenge two friendly design business rivals to test their dazzling design prowess and dream up their own White Christmas,” reads the series premiere logline. “They’ll go head-to-head to transform their homes into sparkling frosty dreamlands with glittering crafts, bargain finds and plenty of merry magic. As the season continues, the teams will face-off in Christmas-themed clashes including: 12 Days of Christmas, Naughty and Nice, Santa’s Workshop, Retro Christmas and Tartan Christmas.”
