Several ‘Today’ Hosts Arrive in Ireland Ahead of Special Episodes Abroad

A few Today hosts are getting a head start on enjoying Ireland ahead of the show’s special episode.

All four hours of the NBC morning show will air live from the Emerald Isle on Friday, October 16. During her “Morning Boost” segment on the show’s Wednesday, October 14, episode, Jenna Bush Hager revealed that some of her colleagues had also traveled across the pond.

The show aired a clip sent in by Carson Daly, who recently landed in Ireland. “Hey, guys! I’m fresh off the plane. Like a true Irishman, golf fanatic, I have come straight from the airport, right here to this special venue,” he stated. “This is the golf course at Adare Manor. I’m in County Limerick. This will be [the] site of the 2027 Ryder Cup, the 100th anniversary of that in September, right here on NBC.”

He continued, “I’m gonna learn all about this special venue. We’re gonna talk about all things golf in Ireland and have an awesome day. I can’t wait. I’m not even tired. Well, maybe a little bit.”

Back in Today‘s Studio 1A, Bush Hager joked, “You know what? He’s gonna have an Irish coffee, and he’ll be just fine, if we know anything about Carson O’Daly.” She went on to share another video message from Savannah Guthrie. (Laura Jarrett filled in for Guthrie at the anchor desk on Wednesday.)

“Hey, everybody, and good morning from Ireland. I got a little head start on all you. We landed just a few hours ago. We’ve already had an unforgettable day,” Guthrie told her co-hosts. “We’re in the West Coast of Ireland. We just saw the iconic Cliffs of Moher. Just one of the many sites we’re gonna get to show our viewers when all of you come here and we broadcast all four hours from Ireland, Friday morning.”

Guthrie gushed about her love for Ireland, adding, “It’s incredible, it’s beautiful, it touches your heart. They say that Ireland seeps into your bones, and I can tell you already, that’s happened to me. So, pack your bags, come on over, bring your heavy raincoats. They say they get four seasons in one day here in Ireland, and I can confirm that is true. But it’s beautiful, magical, enchanting, and I can’t wait to share it with you. So, I’ll see you in a little while.”

Melvin joked that Guthrie’s comments “sold” him on the upcoming trip. Bush Hager noted, “I was texting her this morning. I’m like, ‘I don’t understand.’ She slept for four hours, and she looks so beautiful. So, I think we’re all ready to go.”

Al Roker, for his part, has been absent from Today all week, as he also traveled to Ireland ahead of Friday’s episode. “Al is — I guess he’s not technically off. He’s traveling for Ireland,” Melvin shared on the third hour of Today‘s Monday, October 12, episode.” Dreyer added, “I know. He’s getting a head start.”
