Steph Curry’s Mom Sonya Remarries 5 Years After Dell Curry Split

Steph Curry‘s mom, Sonya Curry, has officially entered a new chapter after quietly marrying her “mystery man” this summer. The news comes five years after her public split from former NBA player Dell Curry, with whom she built one of basketball’s most famous dynasty families.

The educator and author revealed the news of her new marriage on Instagram, sharing that she wed her new partner at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess resort in Arizona. The romance moved quickly, with the couple planning the summer ceremony in just nine weeks after meeting less than a year prior.

Opening up to her followers, Sonya shared that her new husband entered her life during a period of heartbreak following the unexpected death of her mother.

“A year ago my mom passed unexpectedly, while simultaneously the most amazing man came into my life! & [nine] months later, I was blessed with becoming his wife,” she wrote in the caption, calling their union an answered prayer for a true life partner.

Sonya offered fans a glimpse of the celebration through a “Summer 2026 recap” video, dressed in a custom white Pnina Tornai gown from Kleinfeld Bridal accented with gold floral details and Iza diamonds.

Meanwhile, Sonya’s wedding planner, Kristi Lee, also shared a post on Instagram with more behind-the-scenes images from the ceremony and of the dress and decor. “When @sacurry22 give you just two months to plan her special day, on one of the busiest and hottest weekends of the year in Scottsdale, you know it’s going to be no small feat,” Lee’s wrote on the caption. “But every challenge was worth it to celebrate a love as beautiful and inspiring as theirs!”

Sonya and her first husband first met as student-athletes at Virginia Tech before marrying in 1988. During their 33-year marriage, they had three children: Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry (born in Akron, Ohio), fellow NBA guard Seth Curry, and daughter Sydel Curry.

Basketball ties run deep across the family: Seth is married to media personality and The Ringer podcast host Callie Rivers, daughter of NBA champion coach Doc Rivers. Sonya and Dell announced their divorce in 2021, though they committed to remaining supportive parents and grandparents.

Steph attended the wedding with his wife, Ayesha Curry, and is seen in the photo compilations. While Sonya’s new husband’s identity remains private, her update makes it clear she has embraced a joyful fresh start.
