Marlins Man Is Clueless After Sitting Next to Dua Lipa at Yankees Game
What To Know
- A sports superfan known as Marlins Man sat next to Dua Lipa and Callum Turner at the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees postseason game.
- He shared a selfie with the stars on social media and admitted he had no idea who they were.
- Fans were quick to point out that Marlins Man was in the presence of greatness.
One MLB superfan was in for a surprise for one night only when pop star Dua Lipa and her husband, Callum Turner, sat next to him in the Bronx for Game 3 of the American League Division Series.
While the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees 4-3 to eliminate the team out of the postseason, the couple made headlines thanks to an unexpected seatmate: Marlins Man, who is one of baseball’s most recognizable fans.
Laurence Leavy, a South Florida attorney who is known simply as “Marlins Man” to many, found himself sitting next to the famous couple.
Leavy is known to be a frequent attendee of major sporting events from the NBA Finals to MLB postseason games while wearing his trademark bright orange gear, and he went viral this week for striking up a conversation with the Grammy Award-winning musician and the actor, although he admitted he didn’t know who they were at first.
Cameras caught him chatting with Lipa throughout the game and he later shared details of their exchange, revealing that the “Physical” singer was attending her first baseball game and trying out her first-ever American hot dog. He also warmly congratulated the couple on their recent summer wedding and wished them decades of happiness together.
So i had no idea who this couple were and they were so nice and friendly to everyone. I told them i know sports, not music nor movies. They recently got married in june in italy i think. I wish them 50 years or more of happiness. https://t.co/PcIArOGeMy

“So i had no idea who this couple were and they were so nice and friendly to everyone,” Leavy wrote on the caption of a post that he shared on X. “I told them i know sports, not music nor movies. They recently got married in june in italy i think. I wish them 50 years or more of happiness.”
Users on social media were quick to react to the post about Leavy meeting the familiar faces.
“There’s something so nice about being in a baseball crowd where nobody cares what you do for a living, you’re all just there to have a good time,” one comment read. Another person wrote: “Bro is just wandering the earth accidentally side-questing with A-list celebrities,” while another said, “You met one of the biggest popstars in the world!”
The sports crossover arrived right on the heels of a busy week for Lipa, who flew straight to New York after making a surprise appearance on stage during Shakira’s residency concert in Madrid, which Shakira referred to as “a dream come true” on social media.
Between global pop collaborations, navigating their busy careers, and learning the ins and outs of America’s pastime with a sports superfan, Lipa and Turner’s night out at Yankee Stadium proved that even when the home team gets swept, a wholesome postseason date night can still make the headlines.
