Former St. Louis and Oklahoma City television news anchor Angelynn “Angie” Mock has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering her 80-year-old mother in Kansas last Halloween.

According to KWCH, Mock, who once worked for a local Fox station, pleaded guilty to murdering her mom, Anita Avers, on October 31, 2025, at their home in Wichita, Kansas. Mock, who reached a plea agreement after being charged with first-degree murder, will be eligible for parole after 25 years, per a Sedgwick County District Court judge.

Officers discovered Avers on Halloween morning last year with multiple stab wounds inside her home, which she shared with Mock and Mock’s stepfather, Barry Avers. According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock said she killed her mom because she believed she was the “devil.”

She told investigators that she’d entered her mom’s room to talk about an upcoming job interview and found her sharpening knives. Mock initially accused her mother of coming at her with a blade and being forced to overpower her as they fought.

“I had to kill her; she wasn’t going to stop,” Mock said.

Her stepfather, Barry, told investigators that Mock had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and suffered from delusions and depression. He also claimed that she would often spiral into delusional states where she thought people around her were “not real.”

Barry added that Mock was prone to angry outbursts, with her most recent happening three or four weeks before the killing. He said that prior to the stabbing, she had never been violent.

Mock was initially found not mentally competent to stand trial in January and was ordered to undergo evaluation and treatment at a psychiatric hospital. However, in July, a judge found Mock fit to stand trial, and in August, she pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Mock worked as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011 before moving to Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis, where she served as a news anchor and reporter from 2011 to 2015. More recently, she moved into software sales.
