‘NCIS: Origins’: Watch Gibbs & Woody Reunite in the Present

Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Bobby Moynihan as Woody —'NCIS: Origins' Season 3 Episode 2 "My Own Worst Enemy"

What To Know

  • In the October 13 episode of NCIS: Origins, present-day Gibbs (Mark Harmon) reunites with his old friend Woody (Bobby Moynihan).
  • Moynihan reveals what their dynamic is like.

Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Woody (Bobby Moynihan, in aged-up makeup) together is going to be fun. The preview for the Tuesday, October 13, episode of NCIS: Origins, with just a taste of that proves it.

In the Season 3 premiere in the 2026 timeline, Gibbs’ peaceful life in Alaska is brutally, cruelly interrupted when two people come out of nowhere and shoot him. He fakes his death, using a Marine breathing technique, and hears one of them say, “One down, one to go.” Once they’re gone, he uses the same method that Franks (Kyle Schmid) did in the ’90s to get a fingerprint off his neck from where one of them checked his pulse. Who better for Gibbs to turn to run that print than Woody?

As showrunner David J. North told TV Insider after the premiere, “[Gibbs’] time with Woody does directly lead to [a reunion in Episode 3]. Mark’s storyline in 2026, every episode is really feeding into the next in a very linear, emotional, but simple story. ”

Now, in the promo for the next episode, Gibbs shows up at Woody’s. “My god, you’re still stunning,” Woody greets him. It fits with what Moynihan told TV Insider about their present-day dynamic for our digital cover: “Same as it always was! Woody gives the handsome boy a hard time but he loves him more than he knows. It was fun to do scenes with both Gibbs in one week. You really see how amazing Austin is at his job.”

Speaking of Austin Stowell‘s Gibbs, in the ’90s timeline in the video above, he remarks, “Sometimes you gotta break the rules.” We’ll have to wait to see what he’s referring to there.

In this next episode, titled “My Own Worst Enemy,” CBS teases, “In the present, Gibbs (Mark Harmon) returns to civilization and calls in a favor from old friend Woody (Bobby Moynihan). In 1992, the team bands together to help Woody when he’s accused of murdering a bowling rival.”
