‘Last Seen’ Finale Sneak Peek: Ian Makes Heartbreaking Admission

What To Know

  • In the Last Seen season finale, Ian makes a heartbreaking admission to Don in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek.
  • Daniel Henshall details how “torn” Don was between Ian, whom he sponsored in AA, and his brother Henry, who kidnapped the other man’s daughter once he realized the truth.

Is there any world in which there’s a happy outcome for Ian (Patrick Brammall) when it comes to his daughter, Maggie (Chloe Jean Lourdes) on Last Seen? Yes, she is alive, now a teen after she was taken as a child by Henry (Brendan Cowell), who raised her with his wife Jenna (Maxine Peake) as Sarah, their daughter who died. But, as he details in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the Wednesday, October 7, finale, what he can never get back is a lot.

“You don’t understand,” he tells Don (Daniel Henshall), his sponsor and Henry’s brother. “Nobody understands because Maggie was my baby, she was my baby, she was my child, she was perfect, she was my perfect child who looked up to me and loved me. She needed me, she trusted me, and I failed her.”

He continues, “Because she was taken away from me. She was torn away from me. And I’ve grieved her for 11 years, and I’ve grieved myself and I’ve blown up my life and I’ve eaten myself alive, and what am I supposed to do with that, Donny? What am I supposed to do with that? Because even when I get her back, that baby is still lost to me. Forever. So, what am I supposed to do to make that right?” Watch the full clip above for Don’s reaction.

Don was put in a tough place earlier in the season once he realized who the niece he’d gotten to know and even picked up from the phone booth from which she’d called 000 and briefly spoken to Ian, identifying herself as maybe Mags, really was.

He was “incredibly torn,” Henshall tells TV Insider, about “protecting his brother and even more so protecting Jenna, her health, her wellbeing, their family, the life they’ve created with Sarah/Mags and the impact of breaking the family apart on Jenna, on Sarah, on Henry — persecution, imprisonment, abandonment vs doing what’s right for his Ian, the pain and brutal nature of Ian’s trauma, the resulting addiction and destructive Donald is mentoring him through support through the program and friendship… and the relief and healing bringing back his daughter into his life would bring, for Ian, for Debbie… The moral dilemma Donnie finds himself in, torn, stuck in the middle [is] a huge burden.”

The revelation of who Sarah really was “turned him inside out,” he continues.

But once you see the flashbacks to Don and Jenna’s life as well as how hers with Henry began, it was easy to see just why he was so torn and wanted so badly to not hurt her.

“But is it more about what Jenna means to him than it is about Henry for Don?” Henshall wonders. “It’s a complex situation. Yes, definitely it is to protect Jenna, 100%, but it has to be about the protection of his brother also, and the fear of what his brother might do if Sarah/Mags was to be taken from them.”
