Carrot Top has been hospitalized after a suicide attempt, and his rep shared a health update.

On Friday, September 18, the comedian, 61, whose real name is Scott Thompson, attempted suicide, TMZ reported. His show that night in Las Vegas was canceled.

“Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs,” Jami Schlicher, Carrot Top’s rep, told the outlet. “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”

On Sunday, September 20, Schlicher shared an update, telling Entertainment Weekly, “He is now awake, breathing on his own and continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him.”

The statement added, “Humor has always been such an important part of who Scott is and how he connects with people, and that remains true today as he shares moments of humor with the medical staff caring for him. Many messages from fans have been shared with Scott, including stories from people about how his comedy helped them through difficult periods in their own lives.”

In the comments of Carrot Top’s most recent Instagram update, on September 17, fans flooded him with words of support. One follower shared, “We love you brotha’. You’re an absolute legend. We’re all in this together. Prayers your way.”

Another wrote, “I don’t know what you’re going through, but I want you know you’re an original man! You’ve made me laugh many times and people still want to see you perform.”

Someone else echoed, “Hey kiddo! You got a shot at living! See you on the outside! Get well for as long as it takes!”

A different fan declared, “We love you!”

Meanwhile, yet another Instagram user commented, “You have brought so much joy to this world. I hope you feel the love being sent your way.”

Carrot Top is known for his bright red hair and eccentric stand-up routines that feature wild props. In addition to headlining at the Luxor in Las Vegas for more than 20 years, he is the longest-running headlining comedian on the LA Strip.

    Isn't it about time for America to pass Right to Die legislation and open euthnasia clinics? If someone's life has become unbearable, they should have the right to end it.

      I agree. There are such clinics in Switzerland but they are mainly for those who are terminally ill..

    Hopefully he reflects on why he wants to end his life. The lawsuit about him sexually exploiting someone? People who do bad things to others do not get my sympathy.
