Frankie Muniz Says Life Has Been a ‘Nightmare’ After Hitting ‘Rock Bottom’

Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz posted an emotional message on X on September 18 detailing his feelings about hitting “rock bottom” in his personal life. He didn’t share what difficulties he was struggling with, but he said that “the last 6 weeks of my life have been a nightmare I’m praying to wake up from.”

“Everything felt heavy, unclear, and like it was falling apart at the same time. I wouldn’t wish this season on anyone,” Muniz wrote. The message was paired with a serious photo of him sitting in contemplation.

“The unexpected gift in the middle of it is that I’ve had nowhere to hide,” the caption continued. “I’ve had time to sit with myself, do real self-reflection, and finally see the areas of my life that need work if I want to become a better version of me. Not the polished version I show the world…the actual one.”

Muniz, who recently returned to acting with the Malcolm in the Middle special Life’s Still Unfair, wanted to be open about his struggles to help others feel less alone. While the reason for his post wasn’t shared, the actor and his ex-wife, Paige Price, announced their divorce in early July. They were married for seven years and share a 5-year-old child named Mauz.

“I read that sometimes hitting rock bottom is the thing that wakes you up. It forces the changes you needed to make all along so you can live the best life possible,” Muniz said. “That idea has been sitting with me. In five years I believe I’ll look back at this exact low point and feel grateful for it, because the high I’ll be standing on then only exists because I went through this.”

Muniz is also a NASCAR driver. He was involved in a crash during the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series at Bristol Motor Speedway on April 10, the same day that Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair was released on Hulu.
