‘Monster’: Who Will Be the Subject of Season 5 of Netflix Anthology?

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan‘s Netflix true-crime anthology series Monster has explored some very different kinds of killers and crimes over the years. From a seemingly shy man who turns to serial murder and cannibalism to a high-society killing driven by self-preservation, a double-ax murder with an unlikely suspect at its center, and a Wisconsin grave robber whose crimes become increasingly disturbing, each season tackles a high-profile real-life case while exploring the people, circumstances, and societal forces surrounding it.

When will Monster Season 5 premiere?

An official premiere date for a fifth season of Netflix’s Monster anthology series has not yet been announced or scheduled.

What is Monster Season 5 about?

As of right now, Netflix has not officially announced the subject or plot for Season 5 of the Monster anthology series.

Fans and horror enthusiasts have speculated about subjects for the next installment, with popular theories including everyone from Richard Ramirez (“The Night Stalker”) to Luigi Mangione.

However, there are a few that Murphy himself has ruled out. According to Variety, Murphy’s already decided against doing a season about serial killer Ted Bundy. “When you look at those crimes, what are the themes there?” Murphy asked. “It doesn’t ask you any questions about society.”

Murphy has hinted that he is looking for other high-profile true-crime stories to adapt. Top theories have included Richard Ramirez, whom Murphy has used before in several American Horror Story seasons, John Wayne Gacy, and “Co-Ed Killer” Ed Kemper, due to similarities to Ed Gein.

What were previous seasons of Monster about?

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story – Season 1: The first season out of the gate focused on the serial killer and sex offender Jeffrey Dahmer, played by Evan Peters. The series examined his gruesome crimes, his psychological background, and systemic police failures that allowed him to continue murdering undetected for years. In addition to Peters’ outstanding portrayal of the killer, it also offered an award-winning turn from Niecy Nash as Glenda Cleveland, his neighbor.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story – Season 2: The second outing followed Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik Menendez (Cooper Koch), the brothers convicted of murdering their parents, José (Javier Bardem) and Kitty Menendez (Chloë Sevigny), in their Beverly Hills home in 1989, while exploring the brothers’ claims that they suffered years of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story – Season 3: Charlie Hunnam gave the world’s most famous serial killer a Tinseltown makeover with this outlandish take on Ed Gein. The series not only focused on the 1950s grave robber and murderer from Wisconsin, but also on how the horror of his acts had inspired decades of Hollywood horror like Psycho and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story – Season 4: Ella Beatty picks up the iconic axe to play Lizzie Borden, the Massachusetts woman who in 1892 was believed to have murdered both her father and her stepmother with an axe, and whose alleged crimes led to a high-profile murder trial.
