‘The Serial Killer Connection’: ID’s Next Docuseries Brings Murderer’s Wife & Survivor Together

ID’s next docuseries will bring the ex-wife and survivor of a mass murderer together in the pursuit of justice. The Serial Killer Connection, a three-part series, centers on Bonnie Lou and Kara Robinson Chamberlain, the former wife and escapee, respectively, of serial killer Richard “Marc” Evonitz.

In the series, which premieres on October 7, the two decide to join forces in an attempt to solve the biggest mysteries about the man who was considered responsible for sexually assaulting and raping at least three girls before Kara managed to escape and inform the authorities.

The above trailer for the series offers a first glimpse of the women in action. In it, Bonnie says of her former marriage, “I hate thinking about all of the things that happened here in this house. For eight and a half years, I was sleeping next to this monster.” She later admits, “Life with him was basically a crime scene.”

Also in the trailer, Kara explains her decision to reach out to Bonnie: “I was kidnapped, and I escaped. I’m the only person who saw the criminal things that we know of. We can use our knowledge to find other cases that he’s tied to… I’ll never stop searching for answers. This is it.”

This is not the first TV special about the Evonitz case. Previously, Deadly Sins had an episode about the killer, called “Insatiable,” and Lifetime released a made-for-TV movie about the story called The Girl Who Escaped. However, this will be the first time these two individuals have united in pursuit of the truth.

The official description for The Serial Killer Connection describes it as “a gripping new docuseries that reveals an unlikely bond forged in the aftermath of a serial killer’s crimes.” The description continues, “Decades after marrying Richard ‘Marc’ Evonitz at a young age, Bonnie Lou learns that her former husband had been living a horrifying double life as a serial killer — with his deadly secret ultimately revealed after Kara Robinson Chamberlain’s courageous escape from captivity. Years later, an unexpected connection sparked by a social media trend brings the two women together, transforming shared trauma into a determined quest for answers. United by a singular mission, the ex-wife and survivor of a serial killer unite in their determination to uncover the untold life and crimes of Evonitz, and as they dig deeper, they confront the chilling possibility that the full scope of his crimes has yet to be revealed.”

Kara was 15 when she was abducted by Evonitz in South Carolina and managed to escape while he was asleep. Kara then helped police identify her attacker, and he was officially linked to several recent murders of three young girls from Virginia: 16-year-old Sofia Marlene Silva, and a pair of sisters, 15-year-old Kristin Michelle Lisk and 12-year-old Kathryn Nicole Lisk.

In addition to featuring Kara and Bonnie, the series will also feature the “never-before-heard testimony” given by Evonitz’s sister, who reportedly called the authorities after he called her to admit to his multitude of crimes. He died by suicide while police surrounded him in Florida.

The Serial Killer Connection will premiere on October 7 at 9/8c on ID (streaming on HBO Max) and will air on Wednesdays at the same time for the next two weeks.
