Why Isn’t ‘AGT’ on Tonight? September 9 Schedule Change, Explained

Tuesday (September 8) night’s episode of America’s Got Talent this week was a three-hour event, with the results show airing immediately after the live Quarterfinals Night 4 performances. Normally, the performances air in a two-hour slot on Tuesday nights, followed by the one-hour results show on Wednesdays.

But because we already know this week’s results (Cesar Dias, Young & Strange, and Travis Garland are headed to the Semifinals, while Sofia Vergara‘s Golden Buzzer pick, Unitree, is automatically in the Finals), there will be no new episode of America’s Got Talent on September 9.

Below, we rounded up everything to know about the programming change and the show’s schedule for the rest of the season.

Why isn’t AGT on tonight?

AGT isn’t new on Wednesday (September 9) night because NBC is airing the first NFL game of the season between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. The game starts at 8:20 p.m. ET, which is right in AGT’s normal time slot.

It’s very uncommon for the NFL to have a game on a Wednesday. However, because the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers are playing their Week 1 game in Australia on Friday, September 11, at 10:35 a.m., it will be airing on Thursday night in the United States due to the time difference. To continue the tradition that the defending Super Bowl champion host the first game of the subsequent season, the 2026 winning Seahawks are playing their Week 1 game on Wednesday.

The only other time the NFL opened on a Wednesday was in 2012 to avoid conflicting with Barack Obama‘s Democratic National Convention acceptance speech.

When are the AGT 2026 Semifinals?

For the Semifinals, AGT will be back to its regularly scheduled programming. The 12 Semifinals acts will perform on Tuesday, September 15, and the results of who will be going to the Finals will be revealed on Wednesday, September 16.

The 2026 semifinalists are: Cesar Dias, Young & Strange, Travis Garland, Olivia Befus, Luke Taleno, Kameron Marshall, Daniel Alvarez, Acro Canine Crew, Geno Ploeger, Veronika Goroshkova, Come Here, and Royal Lasers.

When is the AGT 2026 finale?

The two-night finale is on Tuesday, September 22, and Wednesday, September 23.
