Back to the Future Part III stars Christopher Lloyd and Mary Steenburgen reunited 36 years after starring in the film.
On Thursday, September 3, Steenburgen, 73, took to Instagram with a carousel of photos of herself and Lloyd, including a recent snapshot.
“It was so lovely to see my longtime friend, Chris Lloyd, and his beautiful wife, Lisa, recently,” she captioned a photo of herself smiling next to the actor, 87. “Chris was in the very first scene I shot in my career.”
Additionally, Steenburgen included a picture of the duo in their first movie together, Goin’ South (1978), directed by and starring Jack Nicholson.
“I was a very scared 24 year old who had gone from zero films to the lead in a film opposite the biggest star of that time,” she shared. “I had never even been out of the country and got my first passport so I could travel to Durango, Mexico, where the film was shot. All this is to say that there, in Mexico, a scared brand new newbie in film found a friend in Chris Lloyd who could not have been kinder to me. He was funny and reassuring and was a person I could turn to ask the embarrassing questions.”

The last two shots of Steenburgen and Lloyd were from Back to the Future Part II — and in the captions, she shared questions she asked Lloyd about show business. “Will I ever get to work with you again?” the last question read, with the reply being, “To answer that, I would need to be able to time travel, but I hope so.”
Back to the Future (1985) starred Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, Lloyd as Dr. Emmett Brown, Lea Thompson as Lorraine Baines, Crispin Glover as George McFly, Claudia Wells as Jennifer Parker, Thomas F. Wilson as Biff Tannen, and more. (Plus, the actors played older family members in the past.) Back to the Future Part II premiered in 1989 and focused on many of the same actors playing future family members.
Meanwhile, Back to the Future Part III was released in 1990. That time, Marty traveled back in time 100 years to warn Doc that Biff’s great-grandfather would murder him. Doc saved a schoolteacher, Clara Clayton (Steenburgen), and they fell in love — complicating his plan to leave that time period.
