MS NOW, CNN & Fox News Ratings Show Big Swings: Who’s on Top?
What To Know
- CNN was the only major cable news network to post growth in both total viewers and the key demo for primetime and total day.
- Fox News maintained its lead in overall viewership despite declines in total viewers.
- MS NOW also showed significant gains in the key demo.
The cable news ratings for the week of August 3 are in, and CNN has reason to celebrate as the only big three network to show growth in total viewers and the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic in both primetime and total day.
According to AdWeek, citing Nielsen big data + panel for the week of August 3, CNN averaged 667,000 total primetime viewers and 114,000 demo viewers. This was up 5 percent in total viewers and up 13 percent in the key demo compared to the week before.
In total day, CNN averaged 473,000 total viewers and 72,000 demo viewers. This was up 2 percent in total viewers and up 6 percent in the demo compared to the previous week. CNN was the only network to post gains in both viewers and demo in total day.
Despite the increases, CNN still trailed its competition, including Fox News, which held the top spot with 2.21 million total viewers and 211,000 demo viewers during primetime for the week of August 3. This was down 5 percent in total viewers but up 9 percent in the demo compared to the week prior.
During total day, Fox News averaged 1.411 million total viewers and 137,000 demo viewers. This was down 4 percent in total viewers but up 11 percent in the demo compared to the previous week.
MS NOW also showed strong growth in the key demo for the week of August 3 across both primetime and total day. In primetime, the network averaged 995,000 total viewers and 103,000 demo viewers. This was flat in total viewers but up 18 percent in the demo compared the week before.
In total day, MS NOW averaged 618,000 total viewers and 65,000 demo viewers. This was also flat in total viewers but up by 7 percent in the key demo compared to the previous week’s average.
As for the most-watched cable news shows of the week, Fox News held 14 of the 15 spots, with The Five coming out on top with 3.35 million total viewers and 305,000 demo viewers in the 5 pm slot. MS NOW’s The Rachel Maddow Show was the only non-Fox show in the Top 15 total viewers chart, averaging 2.004 million total viewers.
Maddow also landed in the 6th spot in the Top 15 demo rankings, averaging 193,000 viewers. CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip also made the list, landing at No. 10 with an average of 164,000 demo viewers.

I sought the most truthful news channel and it consistently was MSN NOW. Michael Steel is invaluable as the ex-Republican and not only gives the view from "the other side" but is entertaining and at the same time emotional. Maddow is brilliant with her unique format and O'Donnell is brilliant and speaks for million of Americans on the despicable president. Jen Psaki brings knowledge and understanding of the political landscape from her days serving past presidents and being an exceptional Press Secretary. All of the other contributors are experienced and extremely knowledgeable in their fields. I refuse to watch any other news channel. I want the truth! And truth in reporting has never been more important!

MS Now (MSNBC) – Bias and Credibility
These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward liberal/progressive causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports, and omit information reporting that may damage liberal/progressive causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy. See all Left Bias sources.
Overall, we rate MS Now Left Biased based on story selection that consistently favors the establishment left. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to news hosts and the website producing numerous failed fact checks.
When I checked independent watchdog organizations the consensus view is that MS Now is not very trustworthy.

Given the total population of America, these figures are abysmal. No one is watching, why bother? If this was any other business it would have been stripped for parts a long time ago

I researched X earlier today and found that 61 million Americans get their news from X which is almost 100 times larger than MS Now. The average age of X followers is 25 to 34 younger than most of the cable news networks as cable news requires subscription fees whereas X has a free version that younger people can access. That's a barrier for MS Now which will likely be out of business in a few years as better options which allow "We The People" to access information directly on the internet with no need for TV/cable news personalities adding their bias to the information.

Again papa right on again, nobody trusts main stream media, just watch the terry horan interview which he states that the news is a liberal echo chamber, and the only way you can get on tv, is if you follow the narrative.
