‘Passenger’ Finally Hits Streaming: Where to Watch the Supernatural Road Trip Horror

The supernatural horror film, which debuted in theaters on May 22, will finally hit streaming on Paramount+ in a matter of days.

When does Passenger premiere?

The film drops on Paramount+ on Thursday, August 20, in the United States. It previously premiered in theaters on May 22, a week sooner than its original date of May 29, since that was also the premiere date for two other horror films, Backrooms and Scary Movie. It was distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Who stars in Passenger?

The film features Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell, and Melissa Leo. It also stars Joseph Lopez, Miles Fowler, and Alan Trong. It was directed by André Øvredal and cowritten by Zachary Donogue and T.W. Burgess. Producing the film were Walter Hamada and Gary Dauberman.

What is Passenger about?

The official description tells us, “Passenger follows a young couple who, after witnessing a gruesome highway accident, soon realize they did not leave the crash scene alone. A demonic presence called the Passenger has latched onto them and won’t stop until it claims them both, turning their van life adventure into a nightmare.”

In other promos, the plot is teased like so: “130 million people take road trips every year. 15,400 of them are never seen again.”

How was Passenger critically received?

The reviews for Passenger were somewhat mixed. Variety’s Elena Lazic, for example, wrote that it was a “satisfying thrill-ride” with “slick formal language” and “game central performances.” The Hollywood Reporter‘s Frank Scheck, however, warned that “only the jump scares keep you from falling asleep” during the movie. We guess horror fans will have to tune in and see for themselves when the pic finally hits streaming.
