Jack Nicholson‘s lookalike grandson, Duke Nicholson, is starring in his first lead role in The Deputy — and a trailer for the movie revealed him in action.
In the crime thriller/dark humor/drama film (directed by Matt Sukkar), Duke plays the inept rookie, Deputy Toby Sawyer, who loses a dead body at a murder scene. The recently released trailer shows his mission to recover the corpse. The Deputy, written by Carlo Bernard, also stars William H. Macy, Tiffany Haddish, Stephen Dorff, Billie Lourd, and Julia Fox.
The trailer shows Toby being tasked with watching a dead body, but when he left and came back, it mysteriously vanished. “The sheriff’s going to be pissed,” he pointed out, to which Dorff’s character, Billy Banks, snarked, “Oh, you think? You dumb f***.”
Meanwhile, Sheriff Krueger (Macy) told Toby, “I know how bad you want to get put on salary full-time. I just need you to show me a little more rigor.” The rest of the trailer features Toby’s intense (and comical) mishaps as he attempted to find out what happened to the corpse.
Duke, 27, is the son of Jack’s daughter, Jennifer Nicholson, and retired pro surfer Mark Norfleet. His other acting credits include Us (2019), Crisis (2021), and In the Hand of Dante (2025), among others. In June, influencer Devon Lee Carlson announced her engagement to Duke on social media.
During a November interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Duke was asked if his famous grandfather gave him any advice on starring in his first leading role.

“I don’t know if he gave me specific advice for this project, but one thing he’s always emphasized is the importance of developing your own material — writing, creating projects with friends, being part of the process,” he shared. “He’s always been more than an actor; he’s a writer and director, too. That advice has been inspiring to me. I never want to just rely on self-tapes to feel creatively fulfilled.”
Jack, 89, is a father of six children: Lorraine, 35, and Ray, 33, with actress Rebecca Broussard; Jennifer, 62, with his ex-wife, Sandra Knight; Caleb Goddard, 55, with his Five Easy Pieces costar, Susan Anspach; Honey Hollman, 44, with model Winnie Hollman; and Tessa Gourin, 31, with Jennine Gourin.
