Stephen Colbert’s Daughter Madeleine Carlisle Abruptly Quits ’60 Minutes’
What To Know
- Madeleine Carlisle, daughter of Stephen Colbert, has resigned as associate producer from CBS’s 60 Minutes amid a wave of staff departures and internal upheaval.
- Her exit follows recent high-profile firings and resignations at the program.
- CBS canceled Colbert’s The Late Show in July 2025 and it aired its final episode in May.
60 Minutes has suffered another blow as Stephen Colbert‘s daughter, Madeleine Carlisle, has resigned from her role as an associate producer on the long-running CBS News program.
According to Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter, the 30-year-old producer handed in her notice in the past few days. Carlisle joined CBS News as an intern in 2017 before going on to report for The Atlantic and Time magazine. She returned to the network in 2022, serving as an associate producer on 60 Minutes for almost four years.
Her exit comes just over two months after her father signed off on The Late Show for the final time. Last July, CBS cited financial reasons for axing The Late Show, claiming the show loses $40 million annually. At the time, some critics argued the cancellation was politically motivated, with parent company Paramount hoping to appease President Donald Trump amid its merger with Skydance.
Colbert shares three children with his wife, Evelyn McGee-Colbert: daughter Madeleine, and sons Peter and John. Madeleine uses the surname Carlisle professionally.
Status also reports that Carlisle may not be the only behind-the-scenes staffer to exit 60 Minutes. The outlet notes that other producers are “actively exploring options” that could see them exit the news magazine program.
Carlisle’s departure comes at a tumultuous time for 60 Minutes, which has seen massive upheaval in recent months. In May, CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss fired 60 Minutes producers Tanya Simon, Draggan Mihailovich, and Matthew Polevoy, and correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi.
After longtime correspondent Scott Pelley spoke out against Weiss and the firings during a heated staff meeting, he, too, was dismissed.
Weiss has since made new hires for 60 Minutes ahead of its 59th season, which is scheduled to return on Sunday, September 13. These new hires, which include controversial former British politician Sir Trevor Phillips and right-wing opinion writer Ross Douthat, have been met with backlash.
The Free Press co-founder also appointed Nick Bilton as the new executive producer of 60 Minutes. However, Bilton, who has no prior television news experience, has also faced criticism.
“People on the show and those associated with it believe Bilton is deeply underwater, though he has expressed confidence in his ability to get the newsmagazine to air this fall,” Status previously reported.

And Fox had to pay after pretending to be a news agency. Don't look up too long you might notice America is tanking under the real swamp rats leading the nation.

For a moment I felt a bit of angst for dropping 60 Minutes from my schedule, but as the network continues to show more of its true petty vindictive right wing nature, it got easier and easier.

I applaud Carlisle for leaving on her own terms. There is some sort of cancer growing at CBS. Very similar with the people currently running this country. Can't wait to hear the stories about " hostages" and "patriots", the economy is great and the war is really not so bad. A shame we can't recognize this country anymore but what a teardown of " 60 Minutes". Producers like Carlisle will land on their feet somewhere but I really wonder sometimes if the country will.

As I approach my 80th b-day, I vividly recall our family’s first TV in 1952 and my devotion to CBS in particular, it pisses me off h that the number of customers are saddened how QUALITY news programs and 60 Minutes are losing their “Shine” over the Agent Orange influenced programming at CBS. Even while I served my tour with the Marines in Vietnam (66-67), it was comforting to see the CBS Newspersons alongside us. It may not be long until I too depart. A damned shame indeed.

Bari Weiss, the gift that keeps on giving.

Yes…just like the President.

What that man in the Oval Office is 'giving,' nobody wants.

I have stopped watching CBS programming. The new management has ruined it by losing their independent point of view.

Television is a brilliant medium that has been captured by motivational research, which is driven by marketing forces that are grounded in manipulation. A format such as Sixty Minutes achieves adequate market share by replication, in somewhat the same manner as drama, but true success is determined by issues, rather than emotional manipulation. Now, with the broader world of the internet, participation completes the loop of repeated viewing, as social media maintains the captive audience. Restoring cohesive power to the networks requires more control over the Influencers.

A 30 yo with 4 whole years of experience quits and it’s a “blow”? Give me a break!

Introduce a glimpse of common sense and a different perspective on things, and leftists will start showing serious TDS symptoms.
-
D
A different perspective - The January 6 2021 riots were really just an informal tour, nevermind the dead and injured law enforcement personell, threats to hang Pence, and poop releases in congressional offices.

"A glimpse of common sense and a different perspective"? Seriously? The reporters who got axed have said Weiss wanted them to soften stories in order to make the Right look better than what they really are and report on stories where facts haven't been verified. Something Cooper,Alfonsi, Vega and Pelley wouldn't do and those with common sense applaud them for standing up and saying this is just the wrong way to do a news show. The Leftists just want the truth in a story to be told accurately. Honestly......who's the one really deranged?
