ABC, NBC & CBS Evening News Ratings: Tony Dokoupil Has Rare Win
What To Know
- For the week of July 20, CBS Evening News, anchored by Tony Dokoupil, saw increases in viewership compared to the previous week.
- The program still finished behind ABC World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News in the ratings.
The week of July 20 was a good one for CBS Evening News. The program, anchored by Tony Dokoupil, saw increases in both total viewers and viewers in the key demo (Adults aged 25 to 54), while ABC World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News were down in both total viewers and key demo viewers compared to the previous week.
CBS Evening News brought in an average of 3.954 million total viewers and 516,000 key demo viewers for the week of July 20. This was a 5% and 9% increase, respectively, compared to the prior week. This was also a 9% increase in total viewers and 4% increase in the adults demo compared to the same week in 2025.
However, the program still fell behind both ABC News and NBC News in the ratings.
ABC World News Tonight, anchored by David Muir, had an average of 8.143 million total viewers and 1.05 million key demo viewers last week. While these numbers more than doubled CBS News’, World News Tonight was still down 4% in total viewers and down 2% in demo viewers compared to the week prior. However, the program improved from the same week in 2025, with a 12% increase in total viewers and 5% increase in key demo viewers.
Tom Llamas‘ Nightly News on NBC averaged 6.606 million total viewers and 960,000 key demo viewers during the week of July 20. The program was down 1% in total viewers and down 4% in adult viewers compared to the previous week. In comparison to the same week in 2025, NBC Nightly News was up 20% in total viewers and up 24% in key demo viewers.
CBS Evening News is still struggling in the ratings compared to its competitors, but was the only program of the three this week to see improvement in numbers compared to the previous week.

CBS news is not objective or trustworthy.

None of the broadcast news editor is. I have watched somethings as they were happening. Then watched ABC, NBC and CBS (before Dukoupil) and they changed the stories completely, especially for political news or they wouldn't report something important. Last week was the 1st timein history in which I remember two of them not carrying a Presidential address to the nation. Broadcast stations have a responsibility for placing it on air.
They have been lying to us for years, can't trust anything they actually say.

They don't broadcast the president's address because of the president's extraordinary track record of spreading fake news. Get your facts straight.

I really like Tony Dukoupil’s honest reporting style. He is not afraid to tell the truth. I also like his efforts to bring some good news into the mix. Today’s world encompasses the most depressing time I’ve ever known.

Sure, gramma.

If they would show the CBS news at 5:30 instead of 6 PM, he would knock ABC out of the water. A lot of people just watch the first one that comes on. I honestly like them both equally.

That's rare, and kind of weird. Maybe Trump called someone and had it fixed for his own balls to make him look good.

I watch Tony every night, he is a real human being in the way he presents the news! He smiles and tells the news like it is!
CBS you would be crazy to have anyone else! The only news I watch!
Great job Tony!

Fox-news-wannabe CBS must be behind this piece. CBS news is still dead last and not even 50% of what ABC News is doing.
