‘The Challenge’ Season 42 Cancellation Rumors, Explained

Some stars of The Challenge had been fearing the worst: that Season 42, Cutthroat, was canceled ahead of its premiere.

The reason? The Challenge‘s new season trailer disappeared from Paramount+’s YouTube (and the original link for it indicates the video has been marked private). However, a new version of the trailer has now been uploaded (above).

Johnny Devenanzio a.k.a. Johnny Bananas wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in a now-deleted post, “Not to fan the conspiracy theory flames but the Challenge trailer has been removed from all platforms Maybe this season was too Cutthroat after all #TonFoilHatTime.”

Also, Cory Wharton speculated on the same social network, “Word on the street is this Challenge season got pulled and I’m gonna be honest with you guys….. I HAVE NO IDEA #cutthroat.”

Nurys Mateo also reacted to the removal of the trailer on her X page, writing, “Since there’s no promo, just wanted to remind yall @TheChallenge 42 airs next Wednesday August 5th and I know there’s no buzz to make yall excited for it but I promise it’s a good season.”

The Challenge Season 42 is not canceled, though. It will premiere on Paramount+ (the first time for the tentpole of the franchise) on Wednesday, August 5.

The description for the season reads, “This new chapter, taking place entirely in the vibrant, and lush landscape of Thailand, features a mix of legendary veterans and fearless newcomers for the franchise’s most intense game yet. Each test will push the 24 fierce titans past their breaking points in a ruthless battle for a share of the $500,000 grand prize. In this bold new era, the Challengers will be divided into three teams and the only way to take home a share of the cash prize, is to cross the finish line together as a unit. To win, nominated captains must balance their hunger for dominance with the need for loyalty, or risk losing their power while solo players must prove they can be team players or lose their chance at the winnings.”
