What To Know

  • Bill Maher stated he might vote for two Republicans in 2028 if Democrats don’t denounce the party’s far-left elements.
  • Despite considering Republican candidates, Maher criticized the GOP and said he could never join the party.
  • Maher predicted strong Democratic performance in the upcoming midterms.

Bill Maher just floated two Republicans he’d vote for in the 2028 election while also explaining why he could never join the GOP.

During an interview with Vanity Fair published on July 23, the Real Time With Bill Maher host, 70, tackled a wide variety of subjects — including the possibility of voting for someone on the right.

Maher described his political stance as “left of center, slightly,” but insisted his “vote’s in play.” He even named JD Vance and Marco Rubio as Republican candidates he’d consider supporting “unless the Democrats come up with someone who will full-throatedly denounce this Jew-hating, communist-flirting wing of the party.”

Still, the stand-up comedian pointed out that he could never consider himself a Republican.

“They’re too religious,” he explained. “They’re fiscal hypocrites who absolutely hate it when the government spends money it doesn’t have, except when they’re in office. They don’t think racism is a thing, and it still is, to a degree. They think climate change is a hoax and the weather girl’s tits are real.”

Maher echoed these sentiments during a recent interview with Jonathan Karl on ABC’s This Week.

“My vote is in play. Because it can’t be [Donald] Trump running,” he declared. “So I’m not living in communist America. I mean, I know that the talking point is that it’s not communism, it’s socialism. OK, I’ve read the quotes from the DSA platform from their own mouths. Don’t tell me I’m not seeing what I am seeing.”

He added, “They say things like ‘takeover of key industries,’ government. That’s communism! You know, there is a definition.”

Additionally, Maher predicted that Democrats will “do very well in the midterms” in November.

The late-night host will return to Real Time on Friday, July 31, following a summer hiatus.

I don’t understand why you keep giving Bill Maher so much attention lately. I used to really enjoy his show (Real Time), although he seems to have deserted his liberal base and become a little more right than centrist. But regardless, he’s still a comedian, not a news analyst. Why is he getting his opinions featured on this platform weekly or even more? How about quoting someone with better credentials, like Rachel Madow? Or Anderson Cooper? Or David Muir?

    He is irrelevant. Who cares?

I care. I pretty much like what he has to say even when I may not agree with him wholeheartedly. He makes a lot more sense than a lot of people and he's funny. Irrelevant? They're the haters.

Is this Hank MacFarlane, jealous that Bill did NOT take him to the oscars party this year???
