Joy Reid Blasts Democrats Over the Way They Treat Supporters

Former MS NOW anchor Joy Reid tore into the Democratic Party on Sunday (July 12) for treating constituents “like employees.”

Reid argued that the Democrats need more candidates who are passionate and whom people are happy to vote for, citing New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani as a great example. Instead, she said the party takes its supporters for granted and relies on their vote no matter what.

“This whole ‘vote blue no matter who’… You’re treating us like employees,” Reid said on her YouTube show. “You’re treating us like we’re obligated to obey you. You want obedience, not passion. Obedience, first of all, we ain’t giving you obedience, because you’ve not obeyed us.”

Reid, who hosted MS NOW’s (then MSNBC) The ReidOut from 2020 to 2025, highlighted former President Joe Biden‘s Build Back Better plan as an example of the Democrats going against its consituents. “The second half of that was supposed to be money for free pre-school, for subsidized childcare, for things that women and children needed,” she stated.

“That all got cut out,” she continued. “And the progressives, the squad we all get so mad at, they were ordered to vote for that s***. And if they didn’t vote for it, they were demonized.”

Reid described herself as a “liberated Democrat” who refuses to blindly follow the party’s leadership. “The leaders are supposed to be obedient to the people, not the other way around,” she added. “Ya’ll want obedience, you don’t want our passion. You want our obedience, you want us to obey you. We should not obey!”

“We have to stop being obedient and start being powerful,” she continued. “Because the only way elected officials stay in office is us. We’re the voters. We have the power.”
