Donald Trump Breaks Silence on Mitch McConnell Health Status
What To Know
- President Trump stated he had no information about Senator Mitch McConnell’s health.
- McConnell has been hospitalized since June 14 for an undisclosed ailment.
- Despite ongoing conspiracies, reports indicate McConnell is recovering.
As speculation about Mitch McConnell‘s health continues to grow, President Donald Trump was asked for an update on the U.S. Senator’s condition while aboard Air Force One on Wednesday night (July 8).
For those hoping the president would shed some light on the situation, his answer instead only raised more concerns. When asked if he had heard anything about McConnell’s current status, Trump responded, “No, I have no idea. I have no idea how he’s doing.”
McConnell was reportedly hospitalized on June 14 for an unknown ailment and hasn’t been seen in public since. Initial reports said that a person was found “unconscious” by paramedics at a known address for the Republican politician.
“Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care,” the 84-year-old’s office said in a statement on June 14.
Another spokesperson later added, “Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital. The senator continues to improve and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”
Conspiracies have spread online in the weeks since regarding McConnell’s condition, with some even suggesting the senator may have died and the government is covering it up.
On Tuesday (July 7), CNN’s conservative commentator Scott Jennings claimed that McConnell called him from the hospital and the pair had a 20-minute conversation about current affairs. When The Arena host Kasie Hunt asked Jennings whether McConnell would be able to call in live, the CNN NewsNight panelist laughed off the idea.
Earlier this week, McConnell’s wife, former transportation secretary Elaine Chao, addressed why she didn’t cancel her diplomatic visit to China following her husband’s health scare.
“The secretary was on a long-planned trip in China to support her family’s philanthropic endeavors,” Chao’s spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “During the trip, she met with a number of people, including the US ambassador. The senator’s health did not warrant an immediate return to the US.”
