Stephen Colbert’s Replacement Ratings Revealed: How Byron Allen’s Show Is Doing
What To Know
- Byron Allen’s Comics Unleashed saw an 85 percent drop in viewership from The Late Show‘s final episode.
- Comics Unleashed also lagged behind its late-night competitors, with both The Tonight Show and a rerun of Jimmy Kimmel Live! drawing higher.
- Despite the ratings decline, Allen emphasized he is not trying to replace Colbert or retain his audience.
Stephen Colbert wrapped up his final-ever The Late Show last Thursday (May 21) with record ratings, and it seems many of those viewers left with the late-night host.
Colbert’s series finale attracted more than 6.7 million viewers, the show’s most-watched weeknight episode of all time. The Late Show‘s replacement, Byron Allen’s Comics Unleashed, fell well short of that number on its Friday (May 22) debut.
According to LateNighter, citing initial panel-only Nielsen Live+Same Day ratings data, Comics Unleashed drew 995,000 total viewers and 116,000 viewers in the 18–49 demo, in the 11:35 pm time slot. This was down a massive 85 percent in total viewers and 95 percent in the key demo compared to Colbert’s series finale numbers.
Of course, one wouldn’t have expected Comics Unleashed to match the numbers of The Late Show‘s last ever episode. However, the show was also well below Colbert’s 2026 Q1 average of 2.69 million viewers, per live+7 big data info.
In addition, Comics Unleashed struggled against its competition on ABC and NBC. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which aired a half-hour later on the East Coast due to an NBA overrun, averaged 1.5 million total viewers and 319,000 demo viewers.
Meanwhile, on ABC, a rerun of Jimmy Kimmel Live! averaged 1.6 million total viewers and 208,000 in the demo.
Allen’s company, Allen Media Group, touted a different story, releasing figures that show Comics Unleashed outperformed Fallon and/or Kimmel in more than two dozen local markets Friday night.
Speaking to NPR ahead of his show’s new time slot debut, Allen admitted he didn’t expect to match Colbert’s ratings. “At the end of the day, I’m not trying to replace Colbert,” he told the outlet. “I am not trying to hold on to his audience because Comics Unleashed has been around 20 years and has its own audience.”
Allen, who purchased Colbert’s time slot for “tens of millions” and will sell his own commercial space to advertisers, added, “Not everybody’s gonna love me. Not everyone’s going to love the fact that I’m not being racist or antisemitic or sexist. But there is that one or two percent that would be like ‘Hell yeah, I’m rolling with you,’ and I learned that at an early age, and by the way, that simple lesson made me a billionaire.”

Now that 60 minutes is basically gutted & Colbert gone, why would I watch CBS? Actions have consequences.
-
J
To watch a NCIS show!
-
D
Don't you people understand yet? It's not about making money. It's about pleasing dear leader.
-
M
Well, there’s still “ Sunday Morning “ …. for now.
-
-
J
i’m sorry for Byron Alan, but I hope that the show is a huge flop and that CBS suffers for it
-
T
I'm not sorry for him. The guy is a billionaire. He owns multiple TV networks himself. He also sued Comcast for 20 billion in 2015 simply for them not wanting to carry his channels, which was due to low viewership, but he cried racism. The guy is delusional.
-
-
M
I hope CBS enjoys paying for an empty studio and having no advertising dollars. You made a really big mistake, most of us are Done with CBS
-
D
Don't you people understand yet? It's not about making money. It's about pleasing dear leader.
-
A
The Show was losing $40 million a year. Now they have a profit of $15 million from Byron Allen. Try to be logical.
-
B
So, YOU KNOW for sure CBS was losing $40 mill ?
So, YOU KNOW for sure CBS will make 15 mill off of Byron Allen ?
I don`t think you really KNOW s-h-i-t, you just believe what the Ellison`s will tell you...
-
G
and actually neither do you
-
-
-
-
D
CBS can kiss my grits. America needs patriots, not MAGA bafoons.
-
A
Not gonna find many patriots on the liberal left. Unless Communism is you’re brand of patriotism.
-
M
we teamed up with the commies in ww2 to defeat your kind
-
H
The left is nothing but patriotic. They aren't the ones supporting a fascist president. They aren't the ones who hate America. The ones who hate America are the ones who are constantly complaining about Americans they disagree with, or even ones that they think they disagree with. The right loves to say "this is what liberals think" any time they see anybody say anything they disagree with, even if few liberals agree with it. You will find plenty of elected members of Congress who constantly complain about all Democrats. You will find Democrats in Congress who complain about policy, specific individuals or Republicans in Congress specifically. They aren't spewing hatred at most of the country the way the far right does.
It's the left who still believes that this is a free country. The right can't stand that people are free to walk down the street speaking Spanish or wearing a head scarf.
-
-
-
B
Cool, so Paramount gave up on promoting their movies and tv shows on their own network by not having a late night talk show. Great move.
-
G
What an arrogant individual. Wouldn’t watch him no matter what time period he was on.
-
A
Just curious. Exactly what did he say that causes you to perceive him as arrogant ? I read the article twice and I don’t see it. He clearly stated he’s not trying to “replace” Colbert. And he said not everyone would like his show but there would be one or two percent that as he said “ hell yeah I’ll roll with that”. I don’t see the arrogance.
-
O
I was thinking the same thing. I didn't detect arrogance in his statement. The last statement in the article is him saying how he will be happy with one or two percent of Colbert's audience. That doesn't sound arrogant at all. Allen sees the deal as an opportunity to sell advertising for his shows. If it doesn't work out, he stands to lose a lot of money. If it does work out, then that is also why he's a billionaire.
-
O
"that simple lesson made me a billiionaire...."
-
P
Allen is a billionaire
-
A
The message of that comment flew right over your head.
-
-
-
J
Not everyone’s going to love the fact that I’m not being racist or antisemitic or sexist. Implying that Colbert is/was??
-
O
No. No.
He's saying comics unleashed is 'pc' and bigoted fools won't warm up to it. In no way was he attacking Colbert. He was putting up defense against MAGAts wanting raunchy 'comedy', late at night.
It's sanitized. 'Elder friendly', considering the time slot. That's what he was signaling.
-
-
M
He’s given other interviews. I saw a video interview a few days ago and he did come off as a jerk to me as well. 🤷♀️
-
-
Z
I assume you’re talking about Colbert
-
J
Then turn the freaking channel! No one is forcing you watch what ever you decide to watch.
-
A
Now use you’re advise concerning President Trump and how YOU think he’s tearing our country apart. I credit the tearing apart to the liberal left. In particular leftist politicians, mayors, governors, judges and voters. In other words the Liberal Left. Trump is working hard to Fix all the mess they created.
-
-
-
A
"Learning 'I'm rolling with you' is the simple way I became a billionaire," says guy entirely unaware of his privilege and blessings.
This is like some tech bro telling a University graduating class 'follow your dreams'.
-
P
What privilege and blessings?
He started out broke writing jokes as an 18 year old comedian with the likes of Leno, Letterman and others!
He also made wise investments.
He was the youngest comedian ever to perform on Johnny Carson at 18.
Stop 🛑 the jealousy and hate.
-
A
You first with President Trump.
-
M
18...he was 14 when wrote jokes with leno and dave.
-
-
-
S
Colbert, the band, the writers — the whole team made the show something special. Hats off to all of you. I’m sad to see it end, but grateful for what you created.
-
G
yeah the whole team of 200+. a gravy train like that has to end, and it did
-
-
I
I would also be interested to know the ratings of all the CBS10 and 11 o’clock local news programs that PRECEDED Colbert. Many tuned into them more than the alternatives because they could watch sports and weather and them seamlessly flow into Colbert’s show. These “genius” computer programmers, the Ellisons, don’t know anything when it comes to preserving the value of their CBS asset. They’re devaluing it with every bone-headed decision they make, and they’re piling up quite a few.
-
P
The Ellisons didn't buy it to preserve it.
They bought it to shut down Colbert and anyone else Trump doesn't like.
-
D
They bought it and agreed to shut down Colbert so they could buy Paramount. Boycott every CBS show forever.
-
-
D
Before Colbert was David Letterman. And don't you people understand yet? It's not about making money. It's about pleasing dear leader.
-
-
L
I said on this site a while back that I was saddened by the prospect of Allen taking a financial hit due to CBS's decisions. But I understand some of the negative reactions to this article. Aguest asked Green Olive: "Just curious. Exactly what did he say that causes you to perceive him as arrogant ?" Deserves an answer(s). I dunno. Maybe the answer is the way Allen (I doubt with conscious malice) said: "Not everyone’s going to love the fact that I’m not being racist or antisemitic or sexist. [Thereby implying that Colbert -- or maybe every other late-nite host/comedian -- is?] But there is that one or two percent that would be like 'Hell yeah, I’m rolling with you,’ [Implying that 98% of everyone else who watched Colbert & not Allen is thus also racist or antisemitic or sexist or some other form of lacking?] and I learned that at an early age, [So, a smarter child social prodigy?] and by the way, [Oh-so-casually schooling us, now?] that simple lesson made me a billionaire.” [Had to throw that in people's faces? And all other late-nite hosts/comedians are 'less than' because they didn't choose to sidetrack into media mogul-dom?]
-
A
You dug down much deeper than my thoughts. I thought and still do that he was simply saying people are sick of political commentary. And much more importantly the My Team/You’re Team ideology. Imagine ( these days) a Comedy show where people of liberal ideology, conservative ideology, independent ideology could laugh really hard at comedy made not at the expense of someone else feelings. I’ve read numerous comments on these Colbert related threads that people actually said they won’t watch Unless it’s political ! Some even came right out and said unless there’s Trump bashing they won’t watch ! It’s so sad that Some people think the only “good” comedy is where someone is being bashed. We can All point fingers. And if we’re honest I think we’ve All played a part in that to some degree. To people on the left Colbert was a master of humor as he made allot of Trump bashing jokes. To those of us on the right we see him as low quality talent as All he had was Trump bashing.
-
D
I, for one, would never, ever want to hurt trump's feelings.
-
S
Now, THAT'S funny!
-
-
J
Trumps actions are so egregious we need to laugh at him and what he does just to deal with the way he is tearing our country apart.
-
A
No that’s your perception and people who share your liberal left ideology. Those of us on the right Thank God that Kamala wasn’t elected. And Biden the Group AutoPen President left this country in a tremendous mess !! Issues that Trump is still having to clean up. I can make a list of all the Biden Fail vs Trump improvements for you if you like. You only hear and see what you want and what you get from the corrupt MSM which 85% of us owned or controlled by the liberal left. Things were Far worse with the exception of gas prices under Biden. When this soon to end War is over gas prices will start to plummet and get to a low we haven’t seen in decades upon decades. But No Way you or people who think like you will give Trump credit when that time comes. You and they Hate him far too much to ever extend any credit. I get that. But fortunately the liberal left doesn’t nearly represent All of America though they wrongly Think they do. One of the many reasons Kamala lost.
-
-
M
Colbert was a master of humor long before Hair Furor decided to become a politician. People seem to forget that he used to make fun of Biden too. Dump just presents far more material because he's a moron.
-
A
Biden gave him plenty of material. But your boy Colbert never mocked and kicked about Burisma Joe. Leftist Commies gotta look out after each other !
-
-
-
-
D
Nothing against Allen i just don't think he is funny. Other comics refer to his show as comics leased.
-
M
I won’t watch it based on principle. I don’t watch CBS News because it is biased. I wish I could stop watching all CBS, but I like Elsbeth and Ghosts.
-
J
i’m with you I’m going to keep watching a couple of the shows on CBS that I really like but if it’s not a favorite of mine I’ll watch something on cable TV or another network. CBS is a sellout and what they’re doing to 60 minutes now is a travesty.
-
N
I love ghosts 🙂
-
M
my old boss was Elsbeths first boyfriend. he said they went rollerskating... thats so 70s
-
M
If you must watch a CBS show, either download it from one of the many pirate sites out there, or get IPTV and watch it there. Steal it, don't let them profit from it.
-
-
A
So he owns the time that show is on and he's going to be selling ad time. Wonder how many of Colbert's sponsors will be buying ad time on his show?
-
P
Maybe My Pillow will take up the slack!
-
A
It does not matter. Byron Allen has his own sponsors. The guy owns tv stations and HD channels, including the Weather Channel. He has about 70 shows on air. He definitely has sponsors. Lol
-
-
R
Boasting about money is just ugly.
I blame the "Greed is good" crowd.
It's not good.
It's ugly.
It makes you do ugly things.
-
M
Allen is quite dumb if his strategy is to not hold Colbert's audience. Why look a gift horse in the mouth? Obviously he is just blaming his putrid ratings on everything but the man who is responsible for those ratings, himself.
-
Z
Colberts ratings were in the dumpster until he was fired. He was never funny. Alan will leave him in the dust.
-
L
He was the highest rated late night show host, so that's simply not true. Late night ratings, in general, have been declining over the years due to myriad reasons - certainly the biggest is that there are a multitude of things to watch, etc. late night, unlike decades ago. He is extremely funny. Just bc you don't care for his humor - I'm guessing you are on the opposite spectrum of his politics - doesn't mean he's not funny.
-
A
Trump bashing was ALL he had. And Yes liberal leftist find that extremely funny. Doesn’t mean he was funny to everyone. ** See the $40 Million annual losses
-
H
You never watched his show. If you did, you'd know that he ribbed Biden regularly when Biden was President, but like all Presidents except Trump, he wasn't going to complain about comedy hurting his feelings. And liberals found that part funny too.
Trump simply gave him more material to work with, because Trump can't stand not being in the news. Trump can't help but tell easily refutable nonsensical lies that nobody would believe if they actually looked into it. Trump also says stupid things constantly, so he's easier to lampoon.
-
-
A
According to This site Gutfeld was highest. At least a month or two back. Could be Colbert’s last few episodes moved him up as his show was ending.
-
M
Gutfield isn't a late night show, it's on at 10 pm. Apples and oranges...but you knew that, wing but.
-
-
-
-
-
C
I hope the line about racism and sexism wasn't referring to Stepen Colberts show that would make me angry at this new guy. Seems kind of smug about his special audience of many years , guess I may as well not bother.
-
G
Well, this is NOT a shock that the numbers are way, way, way DOWN. Dig a little deeper and you'll fine that Allen's show is NOT at all unleashed.
-
P
Fascism's propaganda is a powerful drug for a lot of people.
It seduces you incrementally by playing into people's racist beliefs and promises everyone who will listen 👂 that "They" are the only one who can fix all of their problems!
It worked for Benito Mussolini.
It worked for Adolph Hitler.
It worked for Donald Trump, TWO times!
And it will keep on working as long as people are lied to incessantly by our present media conglomerate owned by billionaires who don't want to pay their fair share of taxes.
Sharing is caring😍
-
A
85% of All TV media is either directly owned or controlled by the Liberal Left. You know the folks out assaulting ICE agents for Trying to remove people who are in our country Illegally. Mamdani a Liberal Leftist just stated very clearly he intends to TAKE people’s property And use law enforcement to do so and redistribute it to what HE termed “responsible stewards”. He’s only one of the liberal left Communists trying to take over our country. And again ( as stated by him) by force if necessary. Calling conservatives Nazis and Fascists is just ugly slang invented by the liberal left. But the Actual “socialism” which is only slightly watered down Communism is Very real. With the Left controlling 85% of TV you were saying about people being controlled ? And the internet ? Totally infested with Leftist ideals. You’re shooting rubber bullets at a steel wall with you’re false/fake commentary.
-
D
I'm always fascinated by how people punctuate. Why do you put a space before a question mark?
-
I
Why does from News brag about being #1 then?
Are you calling them liars?
Because, they’ve had to admit in court that they are liars…
#ChomoChum.
-
A
What are you babbling ?
-
H
News doesn't brag. News reports. Colbert was number one in his time slot. It has nothing to do with Byron Allen though.
-
-
E
None of that is even remotely accurate. Do you just make up stories for yourself?
-
A
No I have eyes, ears, and a mind. Unlike You I don’t march in lockstep with the Liberal Left. I have internet resources and other resources like most Americans. If you believe everything the left spoon feeds you that’s your choice. But don’t expect the rest of us to. What I said was Very accurate. And unfortunately for You and you’re leftist ilk Millions of other Americans know it to.
-
E
I do wonder at your definitions if you're imagining any version of the "Liberal Left," as you put it, that could possibly include the Murdochs, the Ellisons, Brian Roberts, Marc Rowan, the Ochs-Sulzbergers, Jeff Bezos,or any of the billionaires who own the purveyors of the news in the US.
-
-
-
H
You clearly don't know what communism means. You clearly don't know what fascism means. You can look them up. If you look up fascism, you will see that it describes what Trump is actually doing quite well. If you look up what communism is, you will see that nobody on the left is advocating it. If you think they are, find one source where Colbert advocates anything having to do with communism. Since you are saying that the left are communists, it should be easy for you to find plenty of statements by the left, but you can't find a single one.
If you want to know what the left thinks, listen to what the left says, not what the right says that the left says. People on the left judge the right, including Trump, by what people on the right, including Trump say.
Also, give me a list of those 85%.
-
-
-
M
I won't watch CBS ever, and I'm not the only one.
-
A
So All two of you will stop watching. What a loss !
-
-
S
I’ve cancelled them all. CBS stinks
-
D
The point is not Comics Unleashed ratings vs Stephan Cobert ratings.....the point is CBS stated canceling The Late Show because of low ratings but higher expenses......LIARS! Just like their Orange Cheeto supporter....
-
A
🤣🤣
-
-
H
What arrogance!
-
I
Is Byron Allen implying that Colbert is racist and antisemitic and sexist? Why would he bring that up? That wasn't even part of the conversation.
-
A
Sounds like he’s implying Colbert’s audience are those things. And judging by some of the comments here he may well be right !
-
-
M
I have watched this show a few times over the years, and it has never been very funny. Canned material with lame setups from Allen and nothingburgers from the "comedians". I suppose the insomniacs out there might find a use for this boring pap, but I'll pass. Hello Jimmy Kimmel.
-
A
Kimmel responding: Hello Comrade !
-
H
Trump is literally the one stealing ideas from the communists. Putin has Pravda. That's Russian for Truth. Trump copied him with a propaganda network and even used the same name.
-
-
-
T
“Not everybody’s gonna love me. Not everyone’s going to love the fact that I’m not being racist or antisemitic or sexist. But there is that one or two percent that would be like ‘Hell yeah, I’m rolling with you,’
Huh? Colbert wasn't racist, antisemitic, or sexist.
-
W
She announce she's changing the Director of 60 minutes to someone without any experience in the field. Must be nice to just burn money as fast as possible.
-
A
Sounds like it’s possible, time will tell, that CBS is moving more to the middle instead of the hard left they’ve been. That’s good for America. There will still be plenty of left leaning “news” for liberal leftists to get their fix.
-
M
how is cbs news with their move toward trump doing?
-
A
You win some, you lose some. You lost one ! 🤣
-
-
E
They're not hard left and never have been. In fact, they're considered the most conservative of the broadcast networks.
-
A
Course you’re entitled to your Opinion. Looking at them through you’re liberal left lenses you probably Do think that.
-
-
-
-
A
I watched, and I didn’t find them really funny at all maybe , a few jokes were OK, but not too good
-
D
Foxtrot Delta Tango
-
A
Bravo Alpha Yankee
-
-
Y
"that simple lesson made me a billionaire" , lie , he became a billionaire by ripping off cable companies
-
L
Actually, I can enjoy apolitical comedy as much as political comedy ... the bottom line being: is there an opporutnity to (recognize &) laugh at something instead of suppressing or crying or raging about it. But I much prefer a comedian who can offer an extended riff on both, & it's especially fun when they manage to come full circle. Unfortunately, while I occasionally watched Allen's show after Colbert (mostly to see if it improved over time), it always felt stilted. Stiff. Or, more like stifled. No one got to freely riff. It wasn't even a conversation. It was like you get a line, then you get a line, then you get a line, then you get a line, then the host changes the subject by throwing someone a non-sequitur question. Sorry, but that didn't take long to get old.
-
S
He's just hedging. Allen's not funny & his staged comics with bad timing aren't funny. Their jokes pander to adolescents and they just look around at each other after their punch lines, as if they're not sure who's next.
Colbert was intelligent and his monologue went over the heads of many, which is what really bothers them, they're Allen's or Gutfeld's audience.
-
-
C
this style of apolitical comedy comes off as un-natural in this over the top political climate with a clown in charge, ignoreing the orange elephant in the room
-
R
One drug commercial after another with anti wrinkle cream between. That's the formula. Really funny.
-
G
cost per view is the metric. CBS is making money in that slot now.
-
S
CBS should have stood up for frre speech. They bowed to a felon who is presdient. I haope no one watches any of their shows. Voters in the United Stataes should be an informed voter. What is the felon doing for his voters now?
-
B
I don’t want to see anything on CBS ANYMORE MORE!
-
J
The Trump administration has so many thumb screws on CBS I don’t trust what used to be a superb news organization. The only thing I was watching was Colbert and NCAA sports. I will continue with NCAA basketball but that isn’t. Done with CBS.
-
A
So was the implication in that statement that Colbert's audience was racist, antisemetic or sexist? Or that Stephen was???
-
D
Can't believe I miss the Redstones 🤣
-
A
So CBS is officially out of the late night talk show game. Would've been better if they simply brought back "The CBS Late Movie" from the '70s when they showed reruns of their popular prime time shows and a classic film from several years or decades before...
-
H
Late night with Stephen Colbert was the only CBS show I watched on regular basis. There's nothing else I find interesting on CBS. Now I might as well delete that channel from my televisions.
-
G
Comics is awful; worse overuse of laugh tracks ever. Good luck shoveling this stuff Mr Billionaire
-
J
CBS is dead to me.Long live my Colbert!!!
-
B
So, a private equity firm is taking over late night show time slot and leasing it out. Great.
-
G
"Byron Allen’s Comics Unleashed saw an 85 percent drop in viewership from The Late Show‘s final episode"
So I wonder how Byron did against a normal Late Show rating? Such a misleading comment.
-
M
so Jon I understand you’re growing older
-
E
I tried watching Allen's show some time ago. Just didn't appeal to me. I've never watched a lot of shows. Colbert was okay but I always preferred Kimmel.
-
S
Im so glad Colbert is gone !!!! Thank you CBS ..
-
B
Going against the series finale is a BS metric. A disproportionate number of viewers tuned into the finale. Go against the episode a week earlier, a year earlier, whatever.
-
S
Keep reading, Bill
-
D
Until we heard the uproar about his cancellation, we had not watched any late-night T.V. Once we watched him, we both thought he was really funny and wished we had started earlier.
-
-
A
Why compare it to the last episode, because it itself had numbers 85% better than normal. Who new Colbert was even off air, or that a new show was running in its place? Give it time, judge on averages not one time highs. But bottom line Colbert was bot earning the station money.
-
E
Everyone knew. The date of Colbert's last show was announced all over TV (commercials, news programs, all the other late night shows, and so on), on every media website, even in print newspapers and magazines. This was not a surprise schedule change.
-
H
Colbert's numbers were the highest for his time slot consistently. You are right that they shouldn't be comparing Allen's ratings to Colbert's last episode. They should be comparing Allen's ratings from before he moved to CBS to what they are now if they want to judge Allen. If they want to judge CBS, they'd have to look at the financials, because they are leasing the time slot to Allen. Ratings are irrelevant to CBS. They are not the ones selling advertising. They are relevant to Allen, who will make more money since his ratings went up.
-
-
A
Lord please keep the people marching in the Israel Day Parade in NYC safe from the militant Islamists and Communists who would do them harm. Amen.
-
A
...and that Trump loses his latest case against E.Jean Carroll!
-
A
Or better yet the Kangaroo leftist court is fully exposed.
-
-
-
S
I've always enjoyed Byron Allen. Funny guy!
-
M
Instead of losing $45 million annually with Colbert, CBS now can just sit back and collect tens of millions of dollars with Byron Allen. No brainer.
-
A
I bet allot of people on the left really wept hard when ABC axed Tim Allen and Last Man Standing. The show probably hurt Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama’s feelings. So down came ABC’s axe. I don’t recall any screams of Their Taking Away Our Freedom Of Speech !! Fortunately FOX picked the show up and they ran quite a few great seasons there. Just a little comfort to the lefty’s here that the world is not over because Colbert was cancelled.
-
H
I don't recall a single politician or any liberal group asking for those shows to be taken off the air, or even complaining about them. If a liberal doesn't like a TV show, they don't watch it. It's that simple.
-
-
S
Don't miss this.
Byron doesn't have to have ratings or anything connected to network politics. These late night guys like Kimmel, all white guys by the way, need to start back telling REAL jokes and please, they should stop starting their monologues off with Donald Trump...their own personal issues.... their kids' issues??????People have their own problems...and that's why Carson remains KIng. These Jimmies and Fallons, and seths and all of them no longer know what their job is!!!
Byron will be judged differently anyway and he doesn't give a damn. He's a Black person, the audacity! A billionaire who could buy all the late night shows out if he wanted to! And he is BLACK! Byron doesn't need Colbert's audience or ratings. He BOUGHT the slot! Byron OWNS the slot!!!!!
He can't be fired! He owns the slot!!!!!!! Colbert should have just gone on. My goodness, I was so sick of him and the Jimmies and that awful British guy and big-eyed , pale-looking Seth, all crowded together on a couch like girls at a sorority party!!!!!
And I like them all, but grace is better. Colbert just looks so lonely and miserable and outdone!!! Colbert, you are rich, I am assuming. Buy a slot!!! Ask Byron how to do it!!!!! Obviously, CBS has slots people with enough money can buy!!!!
Congratulations Byron!!!!! As a Black person, I am so proud of you. The jimmies and seths and colberts could learn a lot from you!!!!!!! Class and Business Acumen!!!!!! Go Byron!!!!!!!
-
A
"That awful British guy" is John Oliver.
-
S
James Corden.
-
A
The person I replied to was referring to the Strike Force Five late night hosts that appeared with Colbert on his show on a Monday a few weeks ago so he was referring to Oliver not Corden who left the airwaves five years ago...
-
-
-
C
What? And see their ratings plummet too?

Carson told plenty of political jokes. As did Leno, Letterman, etc. They all made jokes on current events, which incl politics. Guess what? Those actually are REAL jokes. It is not the "job" of comedians to ignore current events and politics. And comedians historically have been a part of political resistance in authoritarian regimes and are often among the first targeted by those regimes to squash free speech. And Trump is in the news constantly on a daily basis for doing something either horrific or stupid or both, which is why he is in their monologues on a daily basis. You "like them all?" . . . hmmmm, doesn't really sound like it.

Okay, so you’re one of two things, ignorant, or barely out of diapers. Carson, Leno, Letterman, all told political jokes. Carson was a Republican and he didn’t hold back going after both parties equally. I’d bet you never even watched Carson live. I did. I was barely out of diapers in the 80s and because my parents knew I wouldn’t sleep if they forced me to go to bed, let me stay up and watch. Carson is my all-time fav late night host. He was crude, and rude, but did it in a way that went over people’s heads. Smart comedian. Do something more than watch a handful of cherry-picked YT videos before commenting about how someone does comedy. Bet you also had no idea Bob Saget and Rosie were two of the filthiest comedians. Their stand up was night and day from their “character” personas, but their humor was smart, and quick. It’s hard being a comedian. It’s even harder dealing with people that randomly SCREAM while posting. It’s off-putting and dare I say, shows you’re quite a few rocks shy of a full set.

Also for @ lilroaringmouse. I’m 69 and remember Carson Very well. Yeah he’d do a little political joking. But he never went over board with it like today’s “comedy”. He didn’t have to. He was gifted. He could make you laugh by just looking at you. He was a natural comedian. Though I’m sure he did Work at it to an extent, comedy just came natural to him. Yeah he take an off the cuff shot at politicians every once in a while but he didn’t run it in the ground. The liberal leftist think that Everyone shares their sense of humor. Wrong. And they certainly don’t understand moderation. They wrongly think wide open every second every night is the answer for Everyone. No just they’re own like minded people. It’s Why they will lose the midterms. They Still don’t get it.

I think you might have meant to say Why not What. He can speak for himself but perhaps he’s excited about something new. Instead of the same ole Trump bashing which was pretty much All Colbert had.
