Nancy Guthrie Update: Investigators Already Have Suspect’s Name, Says Retired Pima County Sheriff’s Detective
What To Know
- Retired Pima County detective Robbie Mayer believes investigators already have the suspect’s name in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today cohost Savannah Guthrie.
- Mayer theorizes that more than one person, possibly part of a theft group.
- He is confident the case will eventually be solved.
Today co-host Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing after being abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home — and a retired Pima County sheriff’s deputy thinks investigators already have suspects’ names.
In a May 20 article published by News 4 Tucson, Robbie Mayer, a former detective with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department who solved Tucson’s infamous “Prime Time Rapist” case in 1986, shared his theories on Nancy’s case.
A man named Brian Larriva (the Prime Time Rapist) was presumed responsible for breaking into Tucson homes to burglarize them and sexually assault female residents from 1983 to 1986. However, he took his own life when police surrounded his house. Much like Larriva’s case, investigators have tens of thousands of leads in Nancy’s case.
“We ended up with more than 4,000 leads,” Mayer recalled of the Prime Time Rapist. “One of the detectives had Larriva’s name as a lead, but he hadn’t gotten to it yet because he had so many leads in front of that.”
He continued, of Nancy’s case, “I believe the suspect’s names are in those 50,000. The question is if they can recognize it when they see it. Being in a case like this is like being in a field with rocks and what you’re looking for is under one rock. You just have to keep turning.”

Additionally, the former sheriff’s deputy shared his hunch about what happened to Savannah’s mother. He speculated that more than one person was involved as part of a theft group that was active in Phoenix two years ago and targeted elderly people with money.
Mayer also acknowledged that a lot is still unknown. “This case is so unique. Most of the time we try and find patterns. We can’t in this case,” he pointed out. “These guys came prepared not to leave hair or DNA. Look at how that guy was clothed. They turned off their cell phones.”
Still, he said he believes the mystery of what became of Nancy will be revealed in time, telling News 4 Tucson, “This is a very high-caliber investigation, and I think the FBI is gonna crack the case.”
In the meantime, detectives are working on processing DNA evidence and still seeking information from area residents, with more than $1 million in reward money available.
Nancy was last seen at her Tucson home on the evening of January 31. As of writing, investigators have not named a suspect.

I find it so sad that she has not been found. It must be absolutely heartbreaking for their family. Keep praying...

EGO, got in the way of INVESTIGATION! IF, the CASE had been handled PROFESSIONALLY, the evidence would have kicked you for a LOOP! SO close to home, you could almost solve it sitting in a rocker on your porch! NO COMMON criminal would leave so many CLUES!

It's awful fishy , the FBI , can't find her ---- REALLY !!! THERES A LOT MORE TO THIS THEN THEIR SAYING ----- ITS FISHY FOR SURE !!!!!!!!

FBI seriously? I think they are lucky to find their way home at night and back in the morning! But they will have press conferences so they can pump themselves up in the press! I find it interesting that the son in law is from an area in Tuscany where the mafia is prevalent.

It should not be taking 100 plus days to find a break in the case. There's all this advanced technology these days, hopefully something will solve this case soon.

!
So it’s news LE has a list of 50,000 names and the suspect is one of them? !

Tommaso and his wife because Nancy refuses to give them any money so they can go after Savannah for ransom after they kidnapped Nancy and abducted her for revenge of being mad at Nancy after Annie the eldest daughter has ask Nancy for a loan. Nancy said no. Who else would be able to kidnap her but Tommaso friends would take the risk of kidnapping and abduction so Tommaso wouldn’t get caught.

As if blood analysis is taking this long. They were able to confirm the blood on the porch within a very short time frame? They ruled out DNA on the gloves (restaurant worker) also within a very short time frame.?
They sent DNA in April..to FBI, so I don’t believe they don’t know results already. Just rip the bandaid.
OAN:
Clearly calling FBI isn’t working. LE can wait a long time for results.
Savannah should make another video.
If it were me I would buy a burner phone, show it..Leave the phone number in the bitcoin account. In addition.. if it’s true and they need a key to unlock $..Place the 1,000,000 in there. Tell them money for coordinates..or whereabouts. Give him most of the code, save for the last 2 numbers. Call me..take the phone with you..When you get there..give him the last 2 numbers.
Maybe doing this the old fashioned way is the way to go..

The DNA sent to the FBI in April is supposed to match who? Not everyone’s DNA is on file with the FBI. If you give me a password with all the numbers except the last 2 I will have it solved in 10 minutes. All I have to do is add 00-99 to the end of it. For a million dollars it would be worth it.
You should maybe leave this for people who have done it before. Sometimes ripping a bandage off just reopens the wound.

I don’t think that Mrs Nancy would open the door to someone she didn’t know

I think that somebody very close to Mrs Nancy did it.
