‘The Price Is Right’: Air Force Member Loses Car in Disastrous Game
Not even close! A The Price Is Right contestant lost out on taking home a car after his game turned out to be a disaster.
Casey Chase, a member of the Air Force who was on the game show in 2014, won the fifth item up for bid on April 3. He had the highest bid of $800 on a stainless steel tabletop electric grill and accessories. The actual retail price was $972, which meant that he won the grill and got to come to the stage to play a game for another prize.
Chase played Master Key for a picnic package, a pair of smartphones, and a 2025 Kia K4 LX. He could win either one of the prizes, all three, or none of them.
The way the game worked was that the contestant had to try to guess the correct price of two items. If he got them right, he earned two keys to try to turn in the item’s locks.
There were five keys — one for each item, a blank one, and a master key that allowed him to win all three prizes. The first item was a baby bottle warmer with an automatic shut-off timer.
The number 850 was seen on the front of it, so Chase had to choose between $85 or $50. He was right and earned one key, picking the second one.
A compact air pump was the second item. With 361 on the front, it was either $36 or $61. Chase chose $36 with confidence. It was $61, so he did not earn a second key.
The Air Force member went over to the locks and turned the key in each item. He was buzzed on all of them, which meant he had the blank key and didn’t go home with any of the prizes.
“You got the blank one. I blame the air pump,” host Drew Carey said. Chase was excited that he won the grill on contestant’s row.
However, Chase’s luck turned around when he spun a .70 during the Showcase Showdown. The Price Is Right contestant went up against Robert in the Showcase.
Chase bid $27,180 on a Helen Ficalora jewelry collection, a stainless steel kitchen set, and a trip to the Seychelles. The actual retail price was $25,260. Chase went over, so Robert won the Showcase.
