Saturday Night Live, “” (Saturday, Jan. 24, 10/9c, NBC)

Given the resounding and still-enduring success of NBC’s musical-competition hit The Voice, how did it take this long for Saturday Night Live to secure country jokester Blake Shelton’s services? The five-time CMA Male Vocalist of the Year makes his long-awaited SNL debut tonight, doubling as host and musical guest. (His latest album, Bringing Back the Sunshine, opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, so it’s not like he’ll have to rely on old standards.) Fans know Shelton isn’t afraid to have fun at his own expense — we’re still talking about his classic lip-sync to Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last fall. As a result, expectations are high that Shelton and the SNL troupe will give us plenty of reasons to turn around our own revolving (and reclining) chairs at home.
