Following the news that Whoopi Goldberg would be suspended from The View for comments she made about the Holocaust, her colleagues are (barely) addressing her absence on air.

During the Wednesday, February 2 broadcast, Goldberg’s co-host Joy Behar acknowledged her suspension, lightly, briefly saying, “You all saw the news. Whoopi will be back in two weeks.” Behar and the rest of the table which included Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and guest Tara Setmayer, carried on with the show following the quick comment.

Goldberg was put on a two-week suspension following the blow-back for her comments regarding the Holocaust during the Monday, January 31 show. The conversation began when the women discussed a school’s decision to ban the graphic novel Maus from its Holocaust curriculum.

The discussion led Goldberg to make a statement about how “the Holocaust isn’t about race — it’s about man’s inhumanity to man.” The remark didn’t land well with viewers and Goldberg’s cohosts as she received blowback from the Jewish community and more.

Goldberg has since issued an apology for her statements during the Monday broadcast later that same night. Posting the message on social media, Goldberg wrote, “On today’s show, I said the Holocaust ‘is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man.’ I should have said it is about both. As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazis’ systematic annihilation of the Jewish people — who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected. The Jewish people around the world have always had my support, and that will never waver. I’m sorry for the hurt that I have caused.”
