Emmys 2016: Larry David, Dennis Franz (!) and Jimmy Smits Give Out the Big Awards

In a relatively moment-free Emmys broadcast (aside from Jimmy Kimmel’s smart-assery, that is), the Academy decided to leave two of the best moments until the end.

“I’m presenting! I’m a presenter!”

Handing out the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series was Larry David. “Look at this! I’m presenting! I’m a presenter!” bellowed David, who mentioned that one of the biggest skills you need to present is an ability to feign interest in who wins, a skill he’s gained via being in the dating pool the last few years. “There’s a chocolate chip shortage? Tell me more!” he mimicked.

VEEP won for the second year in a row, but this was new showrunner David Mandel’s first year at the helm, and he let loose a hilarious acceptance speech and dedicated the Emmy to “fat Jews on the Upper West Side, whoever you are.”

Giving out the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy, which went to Game of Thrones for the second year in a row, was Jimmy Smits and his NYPD Blue co-star Dennis Franz. Yes, you read that right. We haven’t seen much of Franz since Blue left the air 11 years ago, and we were so amazed at the sight of him, it was hard for us to remember anything that the two of them said. Is this the start of a comeback for the man who used to be Sipowicz?
