ABC Adds Two More Unconventional Family Comedies to Its Pilot Roster

BreakingNews

ABC clearly knows its comedy brand: Quirky families. The network has picked up the pilots Chunk & Bean, about two misfit pals from mismatched families, and Square Roots, about a man who hails from a family of engineers.

Chunk & Bean comes from writers Ed Herro and Brian Donovan (The Neighbors), and centers “on the unlikely friendship of two misfits, Chunk and Bean, who benefit from having two very different sets of parents living next door to each other.”

Dave Hemingson, whose credits include Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23, Traffic Light and Family Guy, will executive produce with Herro and Donovan.

Square Roots, which was first developed at ABC for the 2013-2014 season, was created by Vijal Patel (black-ish, The Middle, Trophy Wife).

The show follows a man “from a family of logic-driven engineers who is determined to use his ‘gift’ to help the people he loves with their everyday issues…whether they like it or not.” Patel serves as a writer and executive producer.

Both pilots will be filmed single-camera, and will come from ABC Studios.
