- Aneha claimed there was an unseen reason why she was uncomfortable during their talk.
“I talk in silence,” Love Is Blind Season 11 star Aneha Singh confessed to Swooon. “That is my issue. I have to fill empty space with nervous chatter. I do that all the time, and it bites me in the a** because I just say stuff.”
During Season 11 of Love Is Blind, Aneha faced backlash from viewers of the Netflix dating series following a comment she made about her parents not wanting to meet her fiancé, Cam Halloran, because of his race. In Mexico, after a get-together with the other couples, Cam asked whether her parents did not want to meet him due to his religion or him being White. She responded, “You being White.”
Sitting down with Swooon, Aneha addressed their conversation, including some unseen factors that she claims contributed to her controversial comment, including Cam being “a little drunkie.”
According to Aneha, she told her parents that Love Is Blind was “a serious dating show,” where people form actual connections and get married. Revealing that her mother helped her pack for the show, she explained that they were “very supportive.”
Once she met Cam and fell in love, Aneha’s mom was the first person she called from Mexico. She recalled saying, “Mom, you won’t believe it, but I’m engaged, and I’m gonna have a wedding. Would you be interested in meeting Cam, being on camera, and all of that stuff, and being part of this experience?” However, her parents live in California, which made it harder for them to come to Boston to film.

“My mom’s just super shy,” Aneha added. “She’s a little bit more conservative. I think the details of the experience as a whole [were] kind of psyching her out.” This would also have been her first time introducing any man to her parents, which would have made it even harder to do on camera.
That said, she claims that her parents’ apprehension about meeting Cam had nothing to do with his religion or him being White. “First of all, I think me even saying any of that was my own insecurities,” Aneha confirmed. “I’ve never brought a boy home, regardless of race, religion, anything. I’ve dated people from so many different cultural backgrounds… It doesn’t matter to me.”
She continued, “Me speaking on any of the other stuff was definitely just my own insecurities and just [me] talking. I talk in silence. That is my issue. I have to fill empty space with nervous chatter. I do that all the time, and it bites me in the a** because I just say stuff. Sometimes I don’t even remember what I say.”
However, she did remember something about that specific conversation. “I’ve never drank in my life,” she explained, revealing that her family has a history of alcohol related issues. “Cam’s a little bit of a looser spirit, right? So he indulges, and that’s fine. That night, though, in particular, I think maybe he drank more than I was used to. Keep in mind, we were only in person with each other for like three or four days at that point, so he’s still new-ish to me. Sometimes that can make me a little bit uncomfortable when people are really intoxicated around me. That’s why I live alone, so I can always leave. [But] obviously, this is my fiancée. I’m not just gonna leave.”

Looking back at that conversation, Aneha explained that Cam had overheard her talking to John Shannon about how his family is “super Christian,” which caused him to wonder whether they would accept his fiancée, Sarah Williams, since she’s not. “I was like, ‘Okay, I understand where you’re coming from — my family, I’m sure they would prefer someone with a similar cultural background, who speaks the mother tongue, and all that stuff. But at the end of the day, my parents are very accepting,” she recalled.
Revealing that Cam brought up the conversation about religion and race back at the hotel, Aneha explained, “Keep in mind, he was a little drunkie, and so it’s hard to have serious conversations like that with someone who’s maybe in a party vibe right now.”
Still, that doesn’t excuse her response. “Obviously I didn’t handle that well, because I come off on camera very condescending, and it was condescending,” she told Swooon. “[I] sounded like I’m talking to a child, and that’s mainly because I knew in that moment we couldn’t really have the serious conversation that we needed, and we had to wait till the next day.”
