What To Know

  • Morgan’s first husband in Nobody Wants This has been mentioned throughout the series.
  • The marriage ended before the events of Season 1.
  • Morgan rarely discusses her ex, though she shared more details in Season 3.

Nobody Wants This‘ Sasha (Timothy Simons) isn’t the only one with a (seemingly) failed first marriage behind him. Before she was briefly engaged to Dr. Andy (Arian Moayed) in Season 2, Joanne’s chaotic sister, Morgan (Justine Lupe), was married. (Warning: Spoilers for Nobody Wants This Season 3 ahead!)

Though the Netflix series mostly revolves around rabbi Noah (Adam Brody) and podcaster Joanne’s (Kristen Bell) romance, a trend that continues in Season 3, their siblings get nearly just as much focus. For two seasons, Sasha and Morgan have been besties, though their relationship takes a romantic turn toward the end of Season 3. As they’re debating whether or not to ruin the friendship, Morgan brings up her first husband, which, as Sasha points out, she hardly ever does.

If the details about Morgan’s first marriage slipped your mind — there’s been more pressing romantic drama to deal with over the seasons — Swooon has you covered. Scroll for all the details the show has shared about Morgan’s first trip down the aisle.

Morgan has never referred to her first husband by name, and he’s never appeared on screen. Her marriage occurred before the events of Season 1, and we’ve never seen a flashback to that time in her life. She was married to “that tool,” as Travis (Avan Jogia) puts it, when Joanne and Travis were dating, which is revealed in Season 3’s sixth episode.

In Episode 7, the topic comes up again when Sasha asks if things are still weird between Morgan and her ex-husband. “I guess so,” she explains. “You know, the last time I was in New York was actually with him. We got into a huge screaming match at midnight on the street.”

In the most significant conversation about the unnamed character, Morgan launches into a story about how they traveled to New York for her birthday. She didn’t care about seeing any shows, but he was desperate to see The Lion King. They got tickets, went to dinner before, and he told the waitress that she had “nice lips.” Morgan stormed out and took the tickets with her. Seeing the show by herself, Morgan caught sight of him at intermission, but she didn’t let him in. Afterward, he was angry about missing The Lion King.

Afterward, when Sasha mentions that Morgan rarely talks about that time in her life, she reflects, “We got together really young. It was just very toxic and dramatic and embarrassing. I didn’t really like who I was in that relationship. I’m not proud of it.” It’s the last time the relationship is referenced for the rest of the season.

In Season 2, Morgan’s first marriage is brought up in the context of Joanne being afraid that Morgan was rushing into things with Dr. Andy, like she did with her ex. Said ex was even brought up in passing all the way back in Season 1. During Season 1 promo, Lupe told TVLine that she would love to see that character and past relationship be explored more.

“There was one take, I don’t know if it made it in, but Michael Hitchcock [who plays Joanne and Morgan’s father] said something about him being reminiscent of Jason Momoa, and so from then on, I always saw my husband as like a Jason Momoa type,” the actress added.

Are you hoping Jason Momoa himself possibly makes an appearance in a potential fourth season? The show has yet to be renewed, but Morgan’s first marriage could be something to explore in more depth. After all, viewers got a major flashback to a past Christmas of Joanne’s set before the events of Season 1. Maybe a potential Season 4 could devote some time to the relationship that’s had such an impact on Morgan’s character, or bring the ex back into the fold.
