What To Know

- Find out what’s in store for Benedict as we look ahead to the show’s return.
Bridgerton Season 5 may not arrive until 2027, but star Luke Thompson is giving fans a new update on the status of the latest chapter in Netflix‘s Shondaland hit based on Julia Quinn’s novels.
The actor, who plays Benedict Bridgerton, and who led Season 4 alongside Yerin Ha‘s Sophie, appeared on ITV’s This Morning, where he was promoting his new play, The Lives of Others, alongside costar Keira Knightley. “It will be about Francesca and Michaela,” Thompson noted, reconfirming what fans have been told about Season 5’s leading couple, played by Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza.
Despite the spotlight shift from Benedict and Sophie to Francesca and Michaela, Thompson also made sure to point out, “But obviously Benedict is still around.”
As with every season of the show, the Bridgerton family continues to have a presence, whether they’re leading the season or not, and Thompson’s confirmation is certainly exciting for fans hoping to see more of the newly-settled bohemian artist.
Will he and Sophie be in a new stage of their romance by the time Season 5 arrives? It’s certainly something to ponder as almost every new couple returns to the screen with a baby (or one on the way).
For now, Thompson teased, “We just completed [Season 5] now, and yeah, it’s gone well.” In other words, fans are that much closer to stepping back into the world of the Ton, which will continue to expand with Season 6 and a Violet (Ruth Gemmell) prequel spinoff chronicling her love story with Edmund (Rupert Evans).
Thompson isn’t the only former leading man to make a comeback as it’s been previously teased that former leading couples played by Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley, as well as Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, are also all expected to play a role in Season 5 of Bridgerton.
Stay tuned for more news on the show’s return as we approach the new year, and let us know what you think of Thompson’s latest tease in the comments section below.
