‘Bridgerton’: 3 Theories About Violet’s Future After the Spinoff Reveal

Bridgerton‘s newly announced prequel spinoff about family matriarch Violet (Ruth Gemmell) certainly raises a lot of questions as we gear up for the next chapters of the flagship show.

While no premiere date or window has been set, we know the untitled project being written by Shonda Rhimes will not arrive until after the forthcoming fifth season, which centers around the love story of Violet’s third daughter, Francesca (Hannah Dodd), and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). Based on where Violet’s story concluded in Season 4, and imagining where it could go in Season 5, we’re theorizing how the prequel could impact her future storylines.

After all, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story included moments set in the present timeline for the show, addressing issues Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), Violet, and Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) are facing and contrasting them with their past experiences. Should the new spinoff follow a similar pattern, they could allude to where Violet’s story is heading in the prequel, as well as in Season 6. Dive into our theories below.

Blossoming Love

The prequel will follow the love story of Violet and her husband Edmund (Rupert Evans) as they fall in love. In the flagship show, viewers know he dies after being stung by a bee, but considering the title of Julia Quinn’s novella prequel, Violet in Bloom, which chronicles their origin story, it would only seem natural to see the current Violet exploring a new romance as a way to frame her past story. As fans will recall, Violet was beginning to open herself up to romance in Season 4 with Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis), but ultimately took a step back when he proposed to her. Does that mean their future is off the table or merely on pause? Season 5 could further explore that.

More Portia

Quinn’s novella also includes Portia Featherington (Polly Walker) in her younger years. Now in-laws after their children Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton) married, Portia could potentially play a bigger role in Violet’s story onscreen, both past and present. Similar to how Violet and Lady Danbury played a role in Charlotte’s story, perhaps Portia may join the mix for the Violet series. Perhaps it could also provide a different picture of the women’s past and present, considering Portia’s view on her late husband and marriage was far different from Violet’s version of events with Edmund.

Death

Knowing what we do about Edmund’s fate, it would only make sense to overshadow that loss by presenting death in some way within the show. Perhaps viewers will see this represented in Season 5 of Bridgerton, as we know Francesca continues to feel the loss of her husband, John Stirling (Victor Alli). Will a present-day storyline with Francesca help shape Violet’s prequel? It seems like a strong possibility.
