‘Love of Your Life’: Will There Be a Sequel? Everything We Know So Far
Love of Your Life may start like a rom-com, but it doesn’t keep that tone for long. Whereas most romantic leads get their happily-ever-after with their one true love, Maya’s (Margaret Qualley) ending is far less definitive.
The beginning of the Prime Video romance explores ER nurse Maya’s loving relationship with Charlie (Gabriel Basso). When he dies from COVID-19, the adrift and grieving Maya starts hopping between countries and relationships. In Portugal, she meets Felix (Aaron Pierre), a British divorcé and single dad. With him, she discovers a chance to love again, but she can’t run away from her grief. The ending gives Maya some open-ended closure, even bringing her friend Jason (Patrick Schwarzenegger) back into her life.
Does that mean a sequel could be in the cards? Get the full breakdown of Love of Your Life‘s ending and if another movie could be coming below.
How does Love of Your Life end?
Maya leaves Felix just when they’re getting serious. They reconnect some time later, but he’s gotten back together with his ex-wife. She also reconciles with Jason when she travels to New Orleans for a health conference. Afterward, he drops her off at the airport to go back to her new home in Luxembourg, but she decides to go visit Ruth (Catherine Keener), Charlie’s mom, instead.
Ruth imparts an important message: Maya needs to love her life. Maya returns to Boston and listens to a cassette tape Charlie left her. She smiles to herself as she gazes at the Longfellow Bridge, the credits rolling immediately afterward. So, the romantic movie doesn’t have much of a romantic ending, though it is a happy one, with Maya finally facing her pain.
None of Maya’s love interests stick. She didn’t even see if there was anything there with Jason. According to director Rachel Morrison, “subverting” expectations is the point.

“It was very much by design that the audience thinks she’s going back to Jason for a moment, and then realizes she’s going to Ruth. And that’s because this genre is set up for the happily ever after romantic ending. And I am just so profoundly grateful and thrilled that that’s not how this film ends and that it really is so much more about finding her way back to life and to herself,” Morrison told Variety.
Will there be a Love of Your Life sequel movie?
After the ending, Morrison said, “The hope is now she will be open to all the possibilities in front of her — and will probably find the right person again someday and maybe still have kids and all the things — but we’re not spelling it out or buttoning it up for people and know that just finding herself is enough.”
That seems to imply that Maya’s Love of Your Life ending is the last time we’ll see her, though none of the creative team have definitively said if there could be a sequel or not.
