Who is making the Violet Bridgerton spinoff?
Shonda Rhimes will write, executive produce, and co-showrun the limited series with her Queen Charlotte collaborator Nicholas Nardini. This is the latest project written by Rhimes after 2023’s Queen Charlotte.
While Rhimes wrote all of Queen Charlotte, she co-wrote one of the six episodes with Nardini, giving way to this latest series. Meanwhile, Tom Verica will serve as an executive producer and director, with Betsy Beers also executive producing.
Is the Violet Bridgerton spinoff based on a book?
While Queen Charlotte was an original creation by Rhimes, with writer Julia Quinn penning a novel to accompany the show’s release, this Violet story does have source material to pull from, as Quinn previously released Violet in Bloom, a novella about Violet and Edmund’s love story.
What will the Violet Bridgerton spinoff be about?
The Violet Bridgerton spinoff will chronicle the early love story between Violet and Edmund, which has often been referred to in the main run of Bridgerton. As fans know, Lady Violet was widowed when Edmund was stung by a bee and had a deadly allergic reaction, but not before they had a chance to create a large family, with eight children, all constant reminders of their parents’ love.
Who will star in the Violet Bridgerton spinoff?
We’d anticipate Ruth Gemmell, who has played Violet in the series since it debuted in 2020, to make an appearance, but if the spinoff stays consistent with past casting, it’s possible Connie Jenkins-Greig, who played a younger version of Violet in Queen Charlotte, could make a comeback.
If that’s the case and Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury play roles in Violet’s story as they all did in Queen Charlotte, it is possible that Golda Rosheuvel and Adjoa Andoh, as well as India Amarteifio and Arsema Thomas, who played their younger iterations (and maybe Corey Mylchreest as King George, too!), could also return, but stay tuned as we await official word on casting from Netflix. As for a young Edmund, his portrayer remains unknown, but we have a few suggestions you can check out here.
What does the Violet Bridgerton spinoff mean for the franchise?
The series order comes off the heels of Bridgerton Season 5 production, and with Season 6 already ordered, it’s clear that Netflix is investing in the Shondaland hit. When Swooon was on site for the filming of Season 4, the production team revealed the builds of major backlots at Shepperton Studios, conveying plans for long-term filming opportunities, not to mention an expanded “Queen’s World.” After Rhimes signed another overall deal with Netflix, this spinoff pickup is a natural next step.
