Ted Lasso Season 4’s penultimate episode delivered more than one twist as the installment unfolded. While one was extremely sad, another was thrilling beyond measure as the latest phase of Roy (Brett Goldstein) and Keeley’s (Juno Temple) relationship was unveiled. (Warning: Spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 9!)
As viewers see, the episode opens with a match where Keeley gets a bit too excited and passes out, believing it has something to do with her high blood pressure. She’s checked out by A.F.C. Richmond’s medical team, and the question of whether she could possibly be pregnant comes up.
At first, Keeley denies the possibility and notes she’d had her period a couple of weeks prior, but doubt weeds its way through her brain, and she ends up checking an app to discover she’d had her last cycle eight weeks prior. That revelation understandably leads to a pregnancy test or ten, confirming what we as viewers and Keeley already knew deep down: She is pregnant with Roy’s baby!

Could 2023 us have believed this would happen? Not entirely, but after Season 4’s slow-burn return to Roy and Keeley’s romance, it feels like the inevitable next step, even if it is a bit soon after they got back together. When Keeley decides to share the news with someone, she chooses Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and explains that she’d been lax in taking her birth control, hence the surprise pregnancy.
Rebecca’s thrilled reaction seems to reassure Keeley, and Roy remains supportive despite being in the dark about Keeley’s true state, as he tries to keep her calm and relaxed during the women’s team’s away game in Bristol, which they “observed” from the comfort of home.
Moved by Roy’s effort to care for her after the warning about her high blood pressure, Keeley is compelled to finally tell him about the pregnancy. As she announces she has something to tell Roy, Keeley gets up from her seat to whisper in his ear, and he responds in true Roy Kent style, saying it’s the best thing he’d ever heard before he bends down for a swoon-worthy smooch.
