’90 Day’s Shekinah Reveals Why She Left Sarper Amid ‘Last Resort’ Tell All Absence

While Shekinah Garner declined to appear at the 90 Day: The Last Resort Season 3 Tell All after breaking up with her husband, Sarper Guven, and moving to Miami after filming wrapped, she has never been one to shy away from letting her voice be heard. On September 22, she posted an 11-page statement voicing her “side of the story.”
According to Shekinah, she decided not to attend the Tell All to safeguard her mental health. She explained, “My mental health is more valuable than the opinions of the other cast.” She also claims she tried to contact Sarper for weeks leading up to the Tell All, “but he chose to ice [her] out,” which allowed him to “fully control the narrative.”
Ahead of her post, Sarper penned his own statement and explained that “neither of us sees ourselves as married anymore,” which Shekinah made it clear is not how she feels. “I still see myself as married because I am,” she explained. “I never fully got the chance to be the soft, nurturing wife who felt protected and treasured by her husband… but I still took being a wife seriously.”
Pointing at Sarper’s alleged involvement in 90 Day: The Single Life Season 6, Shekinah shared, “I’m fully aware that he has chosen the single life, and even writing those words hurts because it takes me back to the beginning of our journey, when we chose to share our love story publicly. We made a promise then that no matter what happened between us, we would never go on the show The Single Life. That’s a promise I intend to keep with all of the others I made.”

Shekinah further shared that she has been faithful to Sarper, “not because I feel like he deserves that loyalty, and not because every promise he made to me was kept in return, but because I made that promise… I didn’t abandon my own integrity because someone else abandoned theirs.”
Sarper also claimed that he loved the Shekinah he met in Turkey. “I also loved the version of myself I got to be in Turkey,” she revealed. “I was also completely under his care [in Turkey.] I couldn’t drive. I couldn’t do even the smallest things outside our home without his help… I had almost no autonomy. He was in complete control of our world — or rather, I was in his world,” she wrote. “I think that’s what he claims to have liked me better there — it was the dynamic he loved.”
Of course, things changed when they returned to the States. She went as far as to say that Sarper could legally drive in the U.S., but after he drove through a stop sign and Shekinah warned him that he could get a ticket, he “refused to ever drive again.”
Turning to his comedy shows, which have been a major talking point in their split, Shekinah explained, “I can be honest enough to admit that the untrusting part of me wanted to limit the opportunity for infidelity. But that wasn’t the real reason I was there every night. He wanted me there.”
She continued, “He insisted that I sit in the audience where he could see me. No matter what had happened between us that day, what fight we had just had, or whether I had been crying five minutes before he walked on stage, I was expected to sit where he could see me and laugh along at jokes about me and our marriage because he needed me to laugh at them so others felt like it was okay to laugh, too.”
Shekinah added, “The painful irony is that while I watched this bright, charming, charismatic version of him grow in front of the world, I was getting a very different version of him behind closed doors… I wondered why complete strangers were getting the version of my husband that I desperately wanted to.”
As for his actual content, she confessed, “I can’t imagine taking my marriage, something I saw as sacred, and making it the punchline of a comedy routine.”
According to Shekinah, she was kicked off his tour last November. “So many things happened that were incredibly hurtful, but I don’t need to list every one of them here,” she wrote. “I talk to my therapist every week about those things.” After returning to LA, she moved to Miami to “start a fresh new chapter” with her daughter, who is attending a college in the area.
“I still wanted to fight for us,” she said, referring to Sarper’s dating app appearances. “I stupidly allowed it because this is my husband. I felt increasingly like my marriage had become more like a situationship than anything else.”
Ultimately, she shared, “To everyone who supported us, believed in us, and rooted for our love, thank you… I wanted a different ending more than anyone.” She added, “And most of all, I’m sorry to my daughter. I’m sorry you have to watch your mom heal from yet another relationship she truly believed would last. I’m sorry Sarper never made the effort to really know you when the cameras weren’t there. That hurts me in a completely different way.”
She concluded, “I hope you never let someone who couldn’t love you properly convince you that you’re difficult to love.”
