Judy Sheindlin and Jerry Sheindlin have been making their marriage work for nearly 50 years. The longtime couple tied the knot in 1997, and although they briefly divorced in 1990, they wound up remarrying in 1991 and have been together ever since.
In her new primetime special Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable, Judy spent some time talking about her family, which included rare comments about her marriage to Jerry. He did not speak in the special, although he did briefly appear on camera in a scene with Judy and the pair’s great-grandchild.
“Jerry has a great sense of humor,” Judy said. “He’s always been supportive of me. He’s respected my intellect. I think he relishes this life that we’ve created.”

As for how they’re able to make their marriage work today, Judy added, “We still have fun together. We still kiss each other goodnight. We laugh at the same things most of the time. I’ve been blessed. He’s been a good mate. We’ve been good together.”
She also called her husband a “brilliant jurist” and noted that she “learned how to cross-examine from watching Jerry Sheindlin.”
Nicole Sheindlin, one of Jerry’s children from his first marriage to Suzanne Rosenthal, also weighed in on the relationship, adding, “As a duo, the two of them are just fabulous. He brings the fun, and Judy brings the order.”
Both Jerry and Judy were married before they met at a bar in 1976. They blended their families upon getting together (he shares three children with Rosenthal, while she has two with Ronald Levy).
“When we came together, they wanted us to be a jolly tribe,” Nicole recalled. “There was no distinction with respect to ‘step’ and what is biological. It was harmonious from the jump. Truly, we connected from the moment we met. Just a deep connection. It wasn’t as if I was thinking, ‘Oh, there’s another woman with my dad.'”
