All About Judge Judy Sheindlin’s Husband & Their 50-Year Romance
Judy Sheindlin has spent 30 years trying court cases on television, and throughout her TV career, she’s had the support of her husband, Jerry Sheindlin. The two tied the knot in the late 1970s, and although they divorced in 1990, they remarried the following year and have been together ever since.

What does Jerry Sheindlin do for a living?
Jerry is an attorney. He graduated from law school in 1959 and worked as a defense attorney before becoming a criminal trial judge. Jerry then served on the New York Supreme Court from 1986 until the late 1990s.
From September 1999 to March 2001, he was host of The People’s Court on television. Following his exit from the show, he retired from judicial and television work. Since then, he has mostly lived out of the spotlight, focusing on his family.
How did Judge Judy meet her husband?
Judy and Jerry met at a bar in 1976. “I [had] just finished trying a murder case as a defense lawyer,” he previously recalled in an interview with The Los Angeles Times. “She was a prosecutor. There was a reporter from the New York Post there at the bar, and I was speaking to him about the case.”
Jerry continued, “Judy came walking in and put her finger in my face and said, ‘And who is this?’ I said, ‘Lady, get your finger out of my face.’ We’ve been together ever since.”
At the time they met, Jerry was still legally married to his first wife, Suzanne Rosenthal, although they had separated years earlier. According to Judy, he was hesitant about tying the knot again.
“He had no intention of divorcing his wife, even though they had been separated for three or four years,” Judy once revealed. “After we were together for about a year, I said, ‘I want to see your divorce in the newspaper or don’t bother calling again.'”
Why did Judy and Jerry Sheindlin divorce?
Judy and Jerry divorced in 1990 while she was grieving her late father, who died in 1989. “She said to me, ‘If you can’t maneuver this, I’m going to divorce you,'” Jerry once shared. “And I said, ‘Oh yeah? I dare you.’ And the next day, I got divorce papers. The next day. So that was the end of that.”
But the divorce didn’t last long. “I like being married,” Judy explained. “I missed him.” She agreed to go out to dinner with Jerry, and they remarried shortly after.
How many children does Judge Judy have?
Judy has two children from her first marriage: a daughter, Jamie, and a son, Adam. Meanwhile, Jerry and his ex-wife share three children: Gregory, Jonathan, and Nicole.
