Robin Duke

Robin Duke is a Canadian actress, comedian, and writer best known for her work as a cast member on Saturday Night Live (SNL) and as one of the original performers on the iconic sketch comedy series SCTV. Duke began her career in comedy with Toronto’s famed improvisational theater group, The Second City, where her sharp wit and impeccable comedic timing quickly set her apart. Her success at Second City led to her joining SCTV in the late 1970s, where she created memorable characters alongside comedy legends like John Candy, Eugene Levy, and Catherine O’Hara. Duke’s performances showcased her ability to embody a wide range of personas, from quirky eccentrics to relatable everywomen, with equal parts humor and heart.

In 1981, Duke was hired as a cast member on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, where she remained until 1984. During her tenure, she became known for her original characters and spot-on impressions, including Wendy Whiner, the perpetually complaining suburbanite, and her portrayal of celebrities like Brooke Shields. Duke’s work helped bridge the transition between the original SNL cast and the show’s later successes in the 1980s. Her time on SNL also saw her collaborate with fellow comedians like Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo, cementing her reputation as a versatile performer who could thrive in both ensemble and solo sketches.
