Robert MacNeil worked on a variety of projects during his entertainment career. MacNeil worked on a variety of projects during his early entertainment career, including "American Ballet Theatre" (PBS, 1977-78), "Coppelia" (PBS, 1977-78) and "Fake?" (PBS, 1981-82). He also contributed to "Rubinstein at 90" (PBS, 1976-77), "The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer" and "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" (PBS, 1980-81).

In the nineties and the early 2000s, MacNeil devoted his time to various credits, such as "Dangerous Assignments" (PBS, 1990-91), "Fifteen Years of MacNeil/Lehrer" (PBS, 1990-91) and "Nova" (PBS, 1990-2013). He also worked on "Series 7" (2001).
