American musician Pete Wentz, most known for his work with the band Fall Out Boy, was born in Wilmette, Illinois. He first got into music during school, claiming that it felt more challenging than sports at the time, although he loved both. He was very involved in the hardcore punk scene in Chicago and was in several bands throughout the 1990s, until he eventually founded Fall Out Boy with a bassist from one of his previous projects, Arma Angelus. Wentz studied political science at university, but eventually dropped out to focus entirely on his music career. In the early 2000s, the band released their first EPs, and soon after came out with their first studio album, "Take This to Your Grave" (2003). This release led them to sign with Island Records, with whom they released their second album, "From Under the Cork Tree" (2005). The record's single, "Sugar, We're Going Down," was written by Wentz and it peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band's next two albums, "Infinity on High" (2007) and "Folie à Deux" (2008) debuted at number 1 and 8 on the Billboard, respectively, cementing their success. Wentz and his bandmates decided to go into an indefinite hiatus in 2009, which Wentz took as a chance to spend time with his family and dedicate himself to other projects, such as the band Black Cards, and his various personal enterprises, including releasing books, writing comics, releasing clothing, merchandise and more. Fall Out Boy would reunite in 2013, with the release of a string of new records that proved to be as commercially successful as the previous ones, much due to Wentz' ability as a songwriter. Their eigth studio album, "So Much (for) Stardust" (2023) marked a return to the band's most classic sound, exploring their well known pop rock and pop punk sound to positive reviews from critics.
