Mel Tyrae Owens is a Detroit-born former NFL linebacker and attorney who was appeared on Season 2 of "Golden Bachelor."

Owens starred on defense for the University of Michigan before the Los Angeles Rams selected him ninth overall in the 1981 NFL Draft. He spent nine seasons (1981-1989) patrolling the Rams’ linebacking corps, piling up 26.5 sacks and earning a reputation as a hard-hitting, dependable starter.​

When football ended, Owens headed to the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, was admitted to the California bar in 2003 and co-founded the Orange County firm Namanny, Byrne & Owens in 2006.

Away from the courtroom, the onetime linebacker is a divorced father of two sons and long-time youth-sports coach.
