Bobbi Kristina Brown

The daughter of music royalty, Bobbi Kristina Brown was destined for a life in the public eye, but died young in a fashion eerily similar to that of her troubled superstar mother. She was born on March 4, 1993 in Livingston, NJ to global pop icon Whitney Houston and R&B hitmaker Bobby Brown. The young Brown grew up in the shadows of her parents' highs and lows, both in their entertainment careers and personal lives. While her mother gave the world classic hits such as "I Will Always Love You" (1992) and was regarded as the greatest voice of her generation, Brown's father was often criticized for helping her mother change from a "good girl" into a troubled woman who battled alcohol and drug addiction. Brown made her recording debut at six years old on Houston's 1999 single "My Love is Your Love," which included a snippet of her vocals. In 2005, her family starred on the Bravo reality series "Being Bobby Brown," which focused on her parents' tumultuous relationship, but also provided a glimpse into Brown's loving relationship with her mother. After 14 years of marriage, her parents divorced in 2007, and her mother was given custody of her. The split did little to clean up her mother's act, however, and even though Houston made several comeback attempts, her personal struggles eventually took their toll. On Feb. 11, 2012, Houston died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel from accidental drowning. Toxicology reports later revealed several drugs found in Houston's body. Her traumatized daughter was rushed to the hospital that same day after suffering from anxiety. The world mourned the loss of a legend by switching its attention to her daughter, who it was rumored, was battling her own drug issues. Brown made her first public appearance at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards (ABC), where she introduced a tribute to her late mother and gave her first interview with Oprah Winfrey on "Oprah's Next Chapter" (OWN, 2012- ). Later that year, Brown co-starred on the Lifetime reality series "The Houstons: On Our Own," which centered on Whitney's side of the family dealing with life after losing her. In October 2012, Brown announced her engagement with boyfriend Nick Gordon, whom her mother informally "adopted" when he was 12 years old. The relationship raised eyebrows and turned Brown into tabloid fodder similar to what her mother had experienced. The couple, however, reportedly called off their engagement a month later. In an event with unsettling echoes of her mother's death less than three years before, Bobbi Kristina Brown was found unresponsive in the bathtub of her Roswell, Georgia home on January 31, 2015. After spending months in an irreversible coma, she died on July 26, 2015 in Duluth, Georgia. She was 22.
