‘Campus Drivers’ Star Carmen Kassovitz Talks Lois & Lane’s Shocking Ending
Campus Drivers couple Lois (Carmen Kassovitz) and Lane’s (Baptiste Masseline) road to actually being together was anything but smooth, but they finally admit their feelings for each other in the Season 1 finale, when Lane opens up about his past and lets his guard down. However, their happiness doesn’t last long, disrupted by a shocking ending that even readers of C.S. Quill’s Campus Drivers book series couldn’t have seen coming. (Warning: Spoilers for Campus Drivers Season 1 ahead!)
Despite its extreme divergence from Quill’s Fast Lane, Season 1 was always intended to end like it did, Kassovitz said in an interview with Swooon. In Episode 6’s final moments, Lane’s mom (Nathalie Besançon) finally apologizes for how she’s been behaving since Lane’s brother died. She wants to start anew. Sounds great, right? Wrong. Her idea of starting fresh is forcing Lane to transfer universities.
She’s being supportive of his desire to study film, but she pulls him out of Belrose and puts him into a prestigious Los Angeles university without his consent. Lane tries to argue with her plan, but his mom says she’ll make a call and take away Lois’ scholarship if Lane doesn’t fall into line. Scenes later, Lane arrives at her shared apartment with Lane, only to find it being packed up by movers. Blindsided, Lois calls Lane on the phone, but he doesn’t answer. As far as we know, he’s essentially left Lois without a word, despite their burgeoning romance.

“Even for me on the shoot, it was emotional,” Kassovitz said. “So, I think for the readers, and if they like the show, it’s gonna hit different. I think it’s always emotional to shoot the last scene of the script… Just even seeing the the set, the flat, the apartment, just empty, it really helped me play. Because I’ve been in this flat for so long. We shot so long in this flat. I was feeling at home.”
Should the series get renewed for a second season, Kassovitz theorizes that Lois would forgive Lane for his vanishing act. “I think you have to forgive people,” she said. “Forgiveness is really important, so I hope she does. I would have. But I think she will because she knows his his weaknesses and what he’s dealing with, and she’s a smart, smart girl. She’s not gonna throw him away like that. I cannot see her doing that.”
