Though she doesn’t start seeing him as more than a friend until much later, Campus Drivers‘ Lois (Carmen Kassovitz) has her fair share of heated moments with Lane (Baptiste Masseline) while crashing on his couch. One of them is even known by fans of author C.S. Quill’s Campus Drivers book series as the “Couch Scene.” (Warning: Spoilers for Campus Drivers Season 1 ahead!)
Prime Video’s French college romance series brings Lois and Lane’s fan-favorite book moment to the screen in Season 1, and star Carmen Kassovitz broke down what exactly went into filming it during an interview with Swooon.
In Episode 2, Lois arrives home to find Lane and his friend, Lewis (Esteban Vial) writing an adult film script for a producer, who in exchange will get them invites to Cannes Film Festival. Lois snatches up the script, pointing out that the sex positions are impossible. She demonstrates on him, explaining that a woman can’t finish in the position he described.
Determined to prove himself, Lane takes over, placing Lois’ legs around her neck and lifting her up to move her into another position on the couch. “It was really easy for me for him to lift me up,” Kassovitz told Swooon. “I was like, ‘Oh wow, okay. So that was quite easy for him, but we did rehearse the scene because we didn’t have a lot of information about the position.”

That’s one of the reasons why the scene is the most-talked about from the book — the exact position Lois and Lane demonstrate isn’t totally clear. “It’s quite an enigmatic scene, so we choreographed… We rehearse all of that, and when we arrive on set, it was really smooth,” Kassovitz explained.
Once Lane is leaning over Lois, he insists that when he has a woman in such a position, she’s screaming his name. Lois jokingly does exactly that before bursting into laughter, while Lane is clearly hot and bothered.
Kassovitz recently watched the moment back with the Campus Drivers crew. “When I saw the scene, I was like, ‘Girl, you need to chill!'” she said, referring to Lois calling out Lane’s name. “I was like, ‘Am I doing too much right now?’ But I don’t know, I hope not. But it was just really smooth. It was just really fun. Really, really fun to shoot.”
It’s one instance of Lane bringing out Lois more playful side the more time they spend together. “I think he allows her to let go a little bit more,” Kassovitz said. “She needs to learn to let go, and I think that’s what Lane brings to Lois.”
