Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Family Guide: Her Dad’s ‘Big Brother’ Connection & More
Family is just as central as the romance in Jane Austen‘s Sense and Sensibility, if not more so. So, as she promotes the 2026 adaptation of the famous novel, it makes sense that star Daisy Edgar-Jones has come back into the spotlight.
During a recent appearance on the Open Book with Jenna podcast, the actress opened up about the words of advice her TV producer dad gave her when her breakout show, Normal People, came out. He drew from his experience as an executive on Big Brother.
“‘Here’s just some words I’ve learned of wisdom, which is that you might not change, but the world around you might, and the way people interact with you might,'” the 28-year-old recalled her father saying. “‘And so, remembering that you haven’t changed, that you are who you are, and you are the same person that you were pre-all of this is really important.'”
Quite a few fans reacted to Edgar-Jones’ tidbit on social media, only just discovering that she comes from a family involved in the entertainment industry. So, who are her family members, exactly? Get all the details on her parentage below.
Who is Daisy Edgar-Jones’ dad?
Phillip Edgar-Jones has had a career in entertainment for decades. After starting off as a music and film magazine writer, he pivoted to producing. First, he served as an executive producer on British programs like The Jack Docherty Show and The Priory. Most notably, Phillip worked as the Creative Director and Executive Producer of Channel 4’s Big Brother.
“My dad used to run this TV show, Big Brother,” his daughter said. “It was obviously a massive show when I was younger, and there’s loads of pictures of me from age probably six or seven up until a little older, sitting on the diary room chair,” she said, adding that she was too young to watch the show.
She continued, “Every time I meet anyone who’s worked with my dad, they always say he’s the nicest man in television, which is such a lovely legacy. And I’m really proud of him for that. I mean, I’m proud of him for so many things, but I suppose if I’ve learned from that, that it would be nice if that could be my legacy.”
In 2012, Phillip joined Sky Arts and Entertainment as Head of Entertainment, making broadcasts that celebrate the arts. He’s currently the director of the company.

Does Daisy Edgar-Jones have any siblings?
Unlike her Sense and Sensibility character, Edgar-Jones is an only child, but she spoke about creating a sense of sisterhood with her costars.
“So much of sisterhood is a shared history and context and a knowledge of one another,” she told Today. “And I just — I care so deeply for Esme [Creed-Miles], and I feel very sisterly towards her. I don’t have siblings myself, so I think she’s kind of occupied that space for me now in a lovely way. Honestly, playing with her was effortless. It took no work.”
