A Deep Dive Into WNBA Couple Gabby Williams & Marine Johannes’ Love Story
Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams, who’s leading her team into the 2026 WNBA Finals, is one of quite a few players dating another member of the pro sports league. Williams has faced her girlfriend on the court, and even played with her during the Olympics.
If you’re as invested in the players’ personal lives as much as their game, you might’ve already caught wind of Williams’ relationship with New York Liberty guard Marine Johannes. Though we’ll have to wait and see if Johannes is cheering her partner on from the stands during the WNBA Finals, which kick off on October 17, you don’t have to wait to read up on their relationship. Get all the latest updates on the couple below.
Who is Gabby Williams’ girlfriend?
Marine Johannes is a 31-year-old guard for the Liberty. She was born and raised in France, where she started playing basketball at eight years old. She began playing for the French national team in 2016, making her Olympics debut in Rio as one of the youngest players in the tournament. Since 2019, she’s split her time between French professional team Lyon LLDLC Asvel Féminin and the WNBA’s Liberty.
Johannes was part of the Liberty roster that reached the WNBA final in 2023 and helped France win the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Williams, who has dual French-American citizenship, played on both of those teams with Johannes.
In an August 2026 Glamour profile on Williams, Johannes was called Williams’ “longtime partner.” During a press conference in July, Williams said that her partner was an “all-star in [her] life.”
“There’s a lot of things that kind of go on behind the scenes and just knowing that you have someone who’s there through it and doesn’t care what happens on the court, but is there for you when it goes bad or when it goes well, you can just go home and breathe and it makes my life and my job much easier, just having someone by my side all the time,” she explained.
Williams and Johannes’ relationship was first confirmed during July 2025’s All-Star Weekend. The StudBudz Twitch channel, run by WNBA players Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman, live streamed the event. Courtney Williams flirted with Gabby Williams and told Johannes, “I know all y’all trying to act like I was trying to take her woman, I wasn’t. I love your woman.”
Are Gabby Williams and Marine Johannes engaged?
There’s been increased speculation amongst fans that Williams and Johannes are engaged, with many calling them fiancées on social media. A rumor has circulated that they got engaged during the 2024 Olympics, and they’ve reportedly been spotted wearing rings. There’s been no confirmation from the players themselves.

Does Gabby Williams have kids?
Williams, 30, doesn’t have children, though she documented her journey freeze her eggs in April 2026. She explained that right now, she wants to focus on her “career, basketball, and just living life without the family planning worry.”
“As an athlete, time goes by fast,” she explained her decision to Pinnacle Fertility. “We become so hyper-focused on the next career moves, like a new season, contract, or team, that we put family planning aside. Often, until it’s too late. I decided to freeze my eggs at this stage in my career because I want to be able to have the peace of mind that I will have an option to have children one day.”

She added that the process has given her a sense of relief. “Like one less ‘unknown’ when it comes to family planning,” she continued. “As a female athlete, there’s often an unspoken belief that you can’t have both a long, fulfilling career and start a family without compromise. This process helped relieve that pressure and reminded me that I don’t have to choose one path over the other.”
