Houston, We Have a Romance! All About Taylor Jenkins Reid’s ‘Atmosphere’ Movie
While we eagerly await Taylor Jenkins Reid‘s next historical romp, The Last Days of Vic & Coco, some good news has rocketed out of the TJR universe: Atmosphere is coming to the big screen!
In September 2026, the beloved Daisy Jones & The Six author announced that Atmosphere, a sweeping love story set in the early days of NASA’s shuttle program, would be brought to life by the filmmakers behind Captain Marvel, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
Joan and Vanessa are coming soon! Now the only question is: Will Atmosphere get the rights to Sesame Street‘s “I Don’t Want to Live On the Moon”? Before takeoff, we’re breaking down everything you need to know about Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Atmosphere adaptation and keeping you up to date on the most recent casting and production updates.
Atmosphere follows Joan, a scientist selected to be one of the first female astronauts in NASA’s shuttle program in the summer of 1980. There, she meets an entire class of trailblazing astronauts, including Vanessa, a magnetic pilot who teaches her just as much about the universe as she does about herself. The synopsis teases, “But when catastrophe leaves them fighting for survival, they are propelled into an impossible race against time that will test the limits of courage, sacrifice, and love.” After all, space is the perfect setting for yearning. Exhibit A? Rocky in Project Hail Mary.
When will Atmosphere be released?
Right now, Atmosphere is in development, so there’s no set premiere date yet. Since filming has yet to begin, we’d expect to see the film debut in late 2027 at the earliest.

Who has been cast in Atmosphere?
There’s no cast for Atmosphere just yet! We’re going to have to wait until later in the process before any casting announcements are made. That said, popular fancasts include Victoria Pedretti (You) and Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) for Joan, and Eiza González (Baby Driver) and Odessa A’zion (Marty Supreme) as Vanessa.
